Brechin City v Airdrieonians - Match Preview
- By
Steven Mew
City will be looking to continue their recent upturn in form as Airdrieonians provide the opposition at Glebe Park tomorrow afternoon.
Two consecutive 2-0 wins on the road this week has given City a real boost as they look to avoid the bottom two, however Manager Barry Smith is keeping his feet firmly on the ground with plenty of work still to do in the remaining 7 games.
The visitors have struggled for consistency this season and a City win could put them level on points with the Diamonds. Ian Murray's side, however, are also coming off the back of positive result after defeating Forfar Athletic, the leagues form side, last weekend.
TEAM NEWS
Going into the game unbeaten in 5 and with 3 clean sheets, City fans shouldn't expect any radical changes to the line-up although the reality of midweek fixtures means that the Management Team will keep a close eye on player fitness - with less recovery time for anyone carrying knocks.
Happily though, the availability across the squad remains as good as it has at any recent time, with a full bench and only Callum Tapping, Jordan Sinclair and Dene Shields as the only definite absentees.
MANAGERS COMMENTS
Manager Barry Smith commented, "That's 2 good results and 2 good performances on the road and we're now looking to build on that at home."
He also went out of his way to commend the travelling City fans, saying, "A big thank you to the supporters who made it to Methil and Stranraer. Their support was greatly appreciated."
MATCH OFFICIALS
The match referee tomorrow is Greg Aitken who will be assisted by Brian Templeton and Chris Rae. The last time Aitken officiated a City game was the 5-2 defeat against Montrose at the start of last month - City will of course be looking for a far more positive outcome tomorrow.

Joao Victoria gave the hosts the lead on the quarter hour mark but an almost immediate reply from Andy Jackson ensured City went in at the break level. A stunning long range strike from Sean Burns and a superb individual goal from Jackson handed City a comfortable win.

Airdrieonians 0-1 Brechin City - 16th February 2019
The last match between the sides saw City snatch a narrow victory in Airdrie. A scrappy goal from Andy Jackson after 16 minutes proved to be the difference and although Airdrieonians had much of the possession and chances, City defended superbly to earn the win.
