Dumbarton v Brechin City - Match Preview - By Steven Mew

Brechin City are back on the road this weekend with a trip to the west coast to face a Dumbarton side only one point ahead in the current league table.

Despite suffering hugely disappointing back-to-back defeats this week, City can take heart from their recent away form which has yielded 10 points from a possible 12, with the last defeat on the road coming against Montrose at Links Park at the start of February.

TEAM NEWS
Increased selection options continue to emerge with City fans becoming used to seeing the Manager list a full bench on the teamsheet.

Dene Shields remains sidelined whilst both Callum Tapping and Jordan Sinclair are nearing the point where they're knocking at the door for selection. Defender Ryan McGeever is a definite absentee as he serves a one-match suspension as a result of the red card he received against Montrose at The Glebe

MANAGERS COMMENTS
Manager Barry Smith, Assistant Stevie Campbell and their players are keen to put the 2 most recent disappointments behind them, with The Management Team keen to remind everyone that, although City remain in a battle our destiny is very much in our own hands.

Barry said, "With 5 games to go, 3 of them are against our closest rivals in terms of league position so we're well aware of what needs to be done. The players will be doing their utmost against Dumbarton to get back to winning ways."

PREVIOUS MEETINGS
Brechin City 3-2 Dumbarton - 25th August 2018
A spirited second half comeback culminating in a dramatic stoppage time winner from Frenchman Boris Melingui earned City all three points against Dumbarton at Glebe Park in August. City were trailing 2-0 on the hour mark - but goals from Melingui and Callum Tapping brought City level before Melingui's late winner.

Dumbarton 4-1 Brechin City - 1st December 2018
There was less joy for City in the return fixture at the C&G Systems Stadium at the start December. Despite going in goalless at the break, the home side turned on the style in the second half with goals from Calum Gallagher, Ross Forbes and Dom Thomas putting the Sons 3-0 up before Jordan Sinclair pulled a goal back for City. With seven minutes remaining, Calum Gallagher added gloss to the win with a 4th goal.

Brechin City 1-0 Dumbarton - 1st December 2018
In similar fashion to the first meeting between the sides at Glebe Park, City left it late to grab all three points. In a match devoid of goalmouth action, defender Jordan Tapping popped up deep into stoppage time to bundle home from a corner to spark wild celebrations amongst City players and supporters.
