Raith Rovers v Brechin City - Match Preview
- By
Steven Mew
City travel to Kirkcaldy to take on Raith Rovers at Starks Park tomorrow afternoon, looking to bounce back from a damaging defeat against Stranraer last weekend.
The result at Stair Park confirmed that if City are to retain their League One status, they must finish above Stenhousemuir, who currently sit behind City on goal difference, and come through the playoffs.
Raith, meanwhile, have long sewn up a promotion play-off spot but they continue to battle with Forfar Athletic for second place.
TEAM NEWS
Manager Barry Smith is likely to have the same squad available as last weekend, with Callum Tapping in particular pushing for a starting place after training hard to build up fitness. Dene Shields, Lewis Toshney and Craig Thomson miss out through injury.
MANAGERS COMMENTS
Barry Smith said, "We're looking for a big response in all departments after the disappointment of last week, and we can take confidence in having beaten Raith Rovers in our most recent clash at The Glebe. It's good to have Callum Tapping back in contention, as he's been a big miss for us since his injury against Airdrie just before Christmas."
MATCH OFFICIALS
The match referee tomorrow is Graham Beaton and he will be assisted by Alistair Mather and Chris Phillips. The last City game Beaton took charge of was, coincidentally, also against Raith at Starks back in November. Stevie Campbell was in charge of City that day following the departure of Darren Dods as Raith ran out 2-1 winners.

Brechin City 2-1 Raith Rovers - 26th January 2019
The last meeting between the sides saw City come back from a goal down at half time to earn three crucial points. Kevin Nisbet was yet again on target to put the visitors ahead but second half goals from Euan Smith and Ross Kavanagh turned the game in City's favour.
