Brechin ran out 2-1 winners tonight in the first round of the Forfarshire Cup against Montrose at Links Park.

This was Deas and Hillcoat's last game in charge and they played a weakened side against the 3rd Division outfit.

In a fairly even first half, Montrose took the lead when an attacker was put through on goal with the entire City defence standing still claiming for offside, and he kept his composure by rounding John Hillcoat and tapping in from a few yards.

City equalised shortly before half time however, when Charlie King's dipping volley flew into the corner of the net giving the keeper no chance.

City started to stretch Montrose in the second half and found a winner quarter of an hour from time when Chris Geddes cut the ball back for substitute Chris Templeman who rifled the ball into the net from 8 yards.
