Albion Rovers v Brechin City - Match Preview - By Brechin City Media Team

City will be keen to get the focus back to on-field action as we travel to Albion Rovers tomorrow, following the midweek departure of Barry Smith.

Stevie Campbell steps up to take charge in the dugout on an interim basis and will be pleased that he has a more or less full strength squad to choose from, with the exception of Sean McIntosh who continues his recovery from broken metatarsals.

Rovers are likely to field a couple of familiar faces with both Aron Lynas and Giuliano Morena having featured regularly for their first team this season. Their three league games to date this season have yielded a win, a draw and a defeat but perhaps more notably have featured a total of 18 goals! City, of course, remain desperate to get our first points of the season on the board.

Chatting after Thursday night’s training, Stevie said: "There’s no getting away from the fact its been a difficult week for everyone. The players, the vast majority of whom had been signed by Barry, were understandably shocked when the news broke and we chatted everything through at length at training on Tuesday. They fully realise that performances have fallen short of what Brechin City’s management team and our supporters look for. Given we have so many young players in the squad, it’s the first time in their football career that many of them will have faced circumstances like these. However, our more experienced players have and will continue to step up and provide help and guidance to the youngsters – both in terms of their personal football journeys and the here and now of a vital football match on Saturday.”

Turning his attention to the Saturday’s game, Stevie added: “Thursday’s focus moved on more specifically to Albion Rovers and what we need to do as a team to take 3 points. I’m happy that we go there with a clear plan in place as, right now, we’re looking no further ahead than the game in Coatbridge.”

Previous meeting

It is a couple of years since we've visited Cliftonhill for a league fixture with the last being in January 2017, Rovers running out 1-0 winners over Darren Dods's team thanks to a Mick Dunlop strike. The last league game between the two teams took place at Glebe Park later that season, City clinching a vital three points thanks to a Paul McLean header that left us needing just a point to secure our place in that season's play-offs.
