Annan Athletic v Brechin City - Match Preview
- By
Steven Mew
City make the long midweek journey to face Annan Athletic in a re-arranged League Two fixture this evening - remarkably the 4th clash between the sides already this campaign.
TEAM NEWS
Luke Watt took a knock to his foot against Queen's Park on Saturday and will be assessed ahead of the game. He will be City's only doubt with the rest of the squad available for selection.
MANAGERS COMMENTS
Reflecting on Saturday's heavy defeat against Queen's Park, Mark Wilson said, "It goes without saying that it was a disappointing result. We started the game reasonably well in the opening ten minutes, but then we lost a terrible goal and we never quite recovered after that. When we scored the penalty we thought that was our way back into the game but then we go and concede right away again.
"We gifted them goals - it didn't take any kind of quality to unlock us. There were very few, if any, individual pass marks on the day so that was hugely disappointing."
City pulled a goal back late on with a fine flowing counter attacking move, Mark said "We've got quality players when they are prepared to roll up their sleeves and work. Too often the players are slack and that's when you are punished - which is what happened against Queen's Park. Since I've come in there have always been at least a couple of positives to take, but there were none on Saturday other than the impact of the subs that came on and made a bit of a difference."
City have an immediate opportunity to get Saturday out of the system, Mark said "When I was a player and I had a bad Saturday I always wanted another game to come around very quickly. We're fortunate that we've got a game tonight and it gives the players a chance to react and they'll be dying to get out there and put things right from Saturday.
"We know what Annan are about - we know they are streetwise and hard to play against and we've got to be ready for that. I don't think there will be anything tactical about the game - we've played each other 4 times now and we know each other inside out. It's about the players making sure they win their individual battles on the day."

PREVIOUS MEETING
Brechin City 0-2 Annan Athletic - 26 October 2019
The sides clashed just over a fortnight ago in a Scottish Cup 2nd Round replay. After coming back from two goals down in the original tie at Galabank, City were knocked out of the competition following a lacklustre display at Glebe Park. A second half double from Scott McLean did the damage.
