Cove Rangers v Brechin City - Match Preview
- By
Steven Mew
After two consecutive defeats on the road this week, City now face the tough task of a first ever visit to the Balmoral Stadium to face league leaders Cove Rangers tomorrow afternoon.
Paul Hartley's side have enjoyed a positive start to their first season in the SPFL, currently sitting top of the division and boasting a plethora of attacking talent, including ex-City players Jamie Masson and Mitch Megginson.
TEAM NEWS
City will definitely be without the services of left back Chris McLaughlin who is suspended after receiving a straight red in midweek. Skipper Paul McManus missed the trip to Annan on Tuesday due to a back problem and will be assessed prior to the match tomorow.
MANAGERS COMMENTS
Despite the scoreline on Tuesday, Mark Wilson felt that there was improvement from the showing against Queens Park. He said, "It was a totally different game but obviously disappointed with the same result. For anyone looking from the outside they might wonder what there is to be happy about but there was definitely a marked improvement. We started the game well with a good goal but again we are losing goals quickly thereafter.
"When we went down to 10 men, I thought we were still in the game and our players gave us everything in terms of effort. We lost a goal right at the start of the second half which kills us a bit but we dug in and created chances, even with ten men. I couldn't ask any more of the boys that played the full 90. It's disappointing that we've lost again by a large number of goals and that is something we have to sort out."
Striker Ross Crawford broke his duck for City with a brace. Mark said, "I was delighted for him. He came into the team as Paul McManus had a back problem - he had a fitness test but he didn't quite make it. Ross took his opportunity and he is someone who works so hard in training and fans don't get to see that. He's been missing plenty of chances but he has been getting himself into the right areas."
Looking ahead to a tough trip to face Cove tomorrow, Mark said, "Nobody is really expecting anything from us after a couple of bad results. We have to be resolute and go there with a siege mentality and we've got to believe that we can go up there and get something from the game. We've seen this season that Cove aren't unbeatable and there are areas in their team that we can get at. We've got players with pace in the wider areas that can exploit spaces in behind them."

Tomorrow's match referee is Calum Scott, who will be assisted by Dougie Potter and Gordon Seago.

PREVIOUS MEETING
Brechin City 2-4 Cove Rangers - 14 September 2019
City couldn’t give Mark Wilson a winning start to his tenure, as an accomplished Cove Rangers side took three points home from the Glebe after an action-packed match that saw all six goals scored in the first 35 minutes. Luke Watt and Emile Ngoy were on target for City, however Paul Hartley's men proved to be too strong with goals from Jamie Masson, Mitch Megginson, Declan Glass and Fraser Fyvie.
