Manager Mark Wilson has made his third signing of the transfer window with the addition of 27 year-old central midfielder Rhys McCabe, subject to international clearance.
The former Scotland Under-21 international has put pen to paper on a deal until the end of the season, having left St Patrick's Athletic of the Irish Premier Division.
Rhys is a product of the Rangers youth programme and made 9 appearances for the first team before leaving Ibrox amidst their financial crisis in 2012 - opting to sign a 3 year deal with Sheffield Wednesday in the English Championship. He went on to make 36 appearances for the Owls, whilst also spending time on loan at Portsmouth.
Following three seasons at Hillsborough, he would return back to his native Scotland where he trialled with St Johnstone and Hibernian before signing for Dunfermline Athletic where he made 51 appearances over two seasons, scoring 5 times.
After leaving the Pars, Rhys has been plying his trade in Ireland with Sligo Rovers and most recently with St Patrick's Athletic where he featured in the Europa League qualifiers at the start of the season.
Manager Mark Wilson was delighted to capture the signature of McCabe, he said "We're delighted to have someone of his calibre on board to try and help us in our fight to avoid relegation. Rhys is someone with top experience in the game and has played at a number of high profile clubs including Rangers and Sheffield Wednesday and more recently at St Patrick's Athletic where he experienced European football.
"He fitted all of the criteria that we were looking for - an experienced player and a great leader and talker as well as being a good footballer. He will certainly bolster our squad and it's a real lift for the players and supporters in the last few days of the transfer window. It's been a tough window to get people in but it just shows that if you are patient and put the work in, you can get the top players and in Rhys McCabe I think we've got that."
