Brechin City v Elgin City - Match Preview - By Steven Mew

Following a busy end to the transfer window, a City side with five new additions welcome Elgin City to Glebe Park tomorrow afternoon.

TEAM NEWS
Manager Mark Wilson will have the biggest roster available to him so far this season, with the City squad reporting a clean bill of health. International clearance has been received for Rhys McCabe, which means he will join fellow January recruits Andy Jackson, Aidan Laverty, Jimmy Scott and Paddy O'Neil in being available for selection.

MANAGERS COMMENTS
Mark reflected on last week's narrow defeat at Cowdenbeath, "First half we didn't really turn up and we conceded two awful goals. We came out in the second half and had a real go and I was pleased with the effort that they put in. We changed our shape which paid dividends immediately with two goals and from that point on I thought there was only going to be one team that was going to win the game. We created chance after chance but didn't take them.

"It summed up our season that we went on to concede a cheap goal goal which wasn't defended properly and ended up costing us. I was pleased with the response after the goal and we tried everything to get an equaliser and we were unfortunate not to get one after looking back at the footage of the disallowed goal."

Mark was delighted to bring in another two players this week and he showed his gratitude for the generosity of the City fans to allow these moves to happen. He said, "I'd like to thank the people of Brechin who have made this possible. As a coaching team we are extremely grateful to everyone who have put their hands in their pockets and it's allowed us to go and sign these players. With these signings it's added real strength to our squad and adds competition for places."

Looking ahead to tomorrow's match, Mark commented, "Elgin have got some dangerous players - we know that from our games against them this season. In the last game against them I thought by and large we were the better team for a lot of the first half but we didn't take our opportunities and we were punished. When we pulled a goal back late on we were denied an equaliser by a great save before we were caught on the counter for the third goal.

"We know it's going to be a tough game and we know their dangers but we can cause them problems too, and I'm hoping that our new signings can give us that extra edge."

Tomorrow's match referee is Kevin Graham who will be assisted by Alastair Mather and John Stewart.

PREVIOUS MEETING
Elgin City 3-1 Brechin City - 21st December 2019
City's recent resurgence in the league came to an end at Borough Briggs with Elgin City running out 3-1 winners. Former Arbroath striker Kane Hester fired his side into the lead in the 24th minute with fellow striker Shane Sutherland adding a second goal from the penalty-spot on the hour mark, and although City sub Matthew Knox reduced the deficit with five minutes remaining, also from the penalty-spot, Elgin substitute David MacKay restored the hosts two-goal advantage deep into stoppage time to wrap up the points.
