Elgin City v Brechin City - Match Preview - By Steven Mew

City make the trip north to face Elgin City at Borough Briggs tomorrow afternoon looking to bounce back from an opening day defeat against Edinburgh City.

Brechin will be up against a side in good form, with the Black & Whites recording 3 wins out of 3 from their opening competitive fixtures. Back to back 2-0 victories over Stirling Albion and Montrose in the Betfred Cup was followed up by an impressive 4-1 victory over recently relegated Stranraer at Stair Park in the league opener last Saturday.

TEAM NEWS
City will be hoping to welcome back Connor Barron who has been self-isolating over the last 14 days following a couple of positive Covid-19 cases within the Scotland U19 camp.

Manager Mark Wilson gave an update on Connor Coupe who is currently recovering from a knee injury. He said, "Connor is still a wee bit away but it was quite encouraging to see him back on the training pitch working the physio this week. He is still a few weeks away from returning to full training. You need to be careful with knee injuries so although we are desperate to get his pace and creativity in the side, we cannot rush his recovery and risk a reaction."

MANAGERS COMMENTS
Looking back to the league opener against Edinburgh last week, Mark was brutally honest in his assessment. He said, "We were awful, it's hard to defend it. I don't think we could have foreseen that kind of performance even with the way we've been conceding goals. I was hugely disappointed in all aspects of the game - our defending, use of the ball and effort was certainly in question.

"We've had a week of talking things over and this is the time to address it. It's a new season, a new team and the players should be invigorated by that and busting a gut to prove that Brechin's woes of the last few seasons are over. We've put across to the players the minimum that we expect and hopefully they can take into tomorrow's match."

MATCH OFFICIALS
Tomorrow's match referee will be Kevin Graham, assisted by Graeme Leslie and Chris Rae.

PREVIOUS MEETING
Brechin City 1-2 Elgin City - 1st February 2020
City’s hopes of avoiding bottom spot in League 2 suffered a hammer blow as Elgin City netted twice late on to snatch all three points at Glebe Park back in February.

With just seven minutes remaining it looked as if it was going to be a good day at the office for City thanks to Jimmy Scott’s first half opener on his debut. However, goals from Shane Sutherland and substitute Smart Osolador in the space of 4 disastrous minutes saw City slip to defeat.
