Match Preview | Albion Rovers v Brechin City - By Steven Mew

Under the guidance of Michael Paton & Gerry McCabe, City travel to face Albion Rovers tomorrow afternoon following the departure of Manager Mark Wilson and Assistant Simon Donnelly earlier in the week.

Both sides are currently without a point from the opening two matches and will be keen to kick start their league campaign with a win at the Reigart Stadium.

TEAM NEWS
Despite coming off injured against Elgin last weekend, Sean McIntosh trained on Wednesday and will be available for tomorrow's match. Unfortunately, Scott Cusick sustained an ankle injury in training which will likely keep him out of action for 2-3 weeks and will join fellow absentee Connor Coupe on the sidelines.

MANAGERS COMMENTS
Interim Manager Michael Paton said, "Everything has happened so fast. It's not nice to see anyone lose their job but I was delighted to take on the responsibility and help the club out.

"My job outwith playing football is in coaching - I do one to one sessions and that was my pathway into management eventually although this opportunity has come a lot earlier than expected."

Michael will be assisted by Gerry McCabe, a vastly experienced figure whom he has worked under before. He said, "I had a few successful seasons under Gerry whilst he was Assistant Manager at Queen of the South and I have a great relationship with him."

Reflecting on the defeat against Elgin last weekend, he said, "I thought we started the game quite well and we were on the front foot for the first 10-15 minutes. It looked as if we were up for the battle but when first goal went in it took the wind out of our sails. I felt the fight and desire left after that. The boys huffed and puffed after that but it could have been more than 3 in the end.

"A lot of these players are young boys who are getting their first taste of first team football. I remember coming to Brechin on loan and using the opportunity as a platform to then go on and secure a first team place at Aberdeen. There is a lot of talent in that dressing room but they are still learning the game. Their confidence has taken a knock and we have to lift them - we are in this together and we need to show we are ready for the fight.

"I know we've had some poor results but a win tomorrow can put us up towards mid-table. It's my job to make sure the boys are up for it, keep them motivated and ensure they have the belief we can win. It all starts with training - I felt the standard was good on Wednesday and I'm really looking forward to the game."

PREVIOUS MEETING
Albion Rovers 4-1 Brechin City - 8th February 2020
Despite City taking the lead midway through the first half thanks to a converted penalty from Kieran Inglis, City fell to a heavy defeat against Rovers in February. A double from Declan Byrne had the home side ahead at the break before Daniel Scally and Scott Roberts added to the advantage in the second period.
