Match Preview | Cowdenbeath v Brechin City - By Steven Mew

City head into tomorrow's League Two clash against Cowdenbeath at Central Park knowing that a win would be enough to lift them off the foot of the table.

The Blue Brazil currently occupy 9th spot having amassed only 4 points so far this campaign, just one ahead of City at the bottom. Despite a defeat last time out against Stenhousemuir at Ochilview, City will be looking to build on an improved second half performance against the Warriors.

The match will see divided loyalties in the Bollan family, with City defender Luc coming up against his father Gary, himself a former City player, in the Cowden dugout.

TEAM NEWS
Sean McIntosh remains sidelined as he continues with a strengthening program for his hip. He is joined by Przemek Nawrocki who misses out with a hamstring injury, whilst full back Dave McKay is also unavailable due to illness.

Jonathan Page has trained this week as he continues his recovery from an oblique injury which has kept him out for the best part of a month. Midfielder Benjamin Luissint, who would have missed last week's match had it gone ahead, has trained this week and will be available for selection.

MANAGERS COMMENTS
Player/Manager Michael Paton commented, "It was disappointing to be without a game last weekend but it's given some extra time to work with the players and drill into their heads the shape and formation that we'd like to play. It's also allowed the likes of Connor Coupe and Scott Cusick to build up their fitness along with Jonathan Page - the game being off has worked in their favour.

"It's a mini league down there just now so it was disappointing that Albion Rovers picked up a win last weekend - but teams are going to pick up results like that over the season. We just need to focus on ourselves - if we start looking elsewhere and relying on other results then we'll be in trouble."

Looking ahead to a crucial clash against Cowdenbeath tomorrow, Michael said, "Hopefully we can follow on from the second half against Stenhousemuir in our last game. The way we played was promising and was more like the way we are looking to play our football. The confidence was starting to return - if we can take that second half into the 90 minutes on Saturday then we'll give ourselves a good opportunity of getting a result. The next couple of matches are massive for the Club against teams near us in the table and the players are well aware of that."

MATCH OFFICIALS
Tomorrow's match referee is Barry Cook - he will be assisted by Paul O'Neill and Brian Templeton.

PREVIOUS MEETING
Cowdenbeath 3-2 Brechin City - 25 January 2020
The last meeting between the sides at Central Park saw City leave with no points after defeat in a game which saw both sets of fans put through the emotional wringer during a topsy-turvy 90 minutes.

Goals from Jordan Allan and Archie Thomas had the hosts coasting at half time, however City fought back with 2 goals in as many minutes around the hour mark from Paul Allan and Dougie Hill. With 15 minutes remaining, the decisive goal came and despairingly for City it was at the other end as experienced defender Craig Barr headed home.
