Match Preview | Brechin City v Linlithgow Rose - By Steven Mew

It's the 1st round of the Scottish Cup tomorrow afternoon as we welcome East of Scotland Premier League outfit Linlithgow Rose to Glebe Park for what will be the first ever competitive meeting between the sides.

The Rose edged out Glasgow University in the second preliminary round to set up a trip to Glebe Park and currently sit 3rd in their division, six points off leaders Tranent with a game in hand.

City head into the match off the back of a well-earned point against Annan Athletic in midweek and will be looking to follow that up with progression to the 2nd round of the national cup competition.

TEAM NEWS
City will continue to be without Sean McIntosh through injury. Experienced striker Jimmy Scott came off with a tight calf in midweek but should be part of the squad. Przemek Nawrocki trained yesterday following injury and will be available for selection. Due to their loan agreements, unfortunately both Matty Todd and Connor Barron will be unavailable.

MANAGERS COMMENTS
City boss Michael Paton was pleased with the reaction of his players on Tuesday. He said, "We showed great character and attitude to come out and put on a good display after a poor performance last Saturday. The boys rolled up their sleeves and gave me 100% effort. I felt we deserved more than a point - we penned them in for the last 10-15 minutes of the game. The keeper made a great save from myself at a corner and then Jonathan Page hit the post with the rebound.

"Rory Currie came on and worked his socks off and it was no coincidence that he had his chance to go on-on-one with the keeper. That was down to his effort and determination in the build up and he was just unfortunate that he didn't stick it away.

"Our fitness levels prevailed in the last 15-20 minutes. I felt when I first came in that some of the boys were a couple of yards off the pace. There is a lot of running involved in our training sessions just now and I think we saw the benefits of that on Tuesday."

Looking ahead to the visit of Linlithgow Rose, Michael said, "Tomorrow's game is massive. Every club wants to go as far as they can in this cup. Linlithgow Rose will be looking at it as a cup final and to prove that they can compete at a higher level. It will be a real test but it's one that we are looking forward to."
