CLUB STATEMENT - By BCFC Management Committee

The last two seasons have been unique and unprecedented in Scottish football for obvious reasons. There has been a huge uncertainty as to the fate of this season since a shutdown for SPFL Leagues 1 and 2 and all other leagues out with the SPFL Premiership and Championship was imposed in early January.

The Scottish Government has now given their consent to the resumption of SPFL Leagues 1 and 2 with competitive fixtures due to resume on Saturday 20 March.

Everyone connected with football wants to see a return to playing as soon as possible and we as a Club are no different. However, we do have serious reservations in relation to the proposed resumption, primarily in relation to the welfare of our players, management and staff and their families, given what is now going to be asked of them.

The exceptionally short re-conditioning time before an intense schedule of competitive fixtures is asking a huge amount of players with jobs outside football – despite the fact that like all of us, the players are super keen simply to get the on-field action underway again.

League 1 and 2 Clubs are faced with the most difficult of decisions on how best to restart after such a long lay off. The fact of the matter is that the clubs must reach a 75% consensus for either voiding the season, changing to a 18 game season or a 22 game season with a split. If a consensus cannot be reached amongst the clubs, the status quo of a 27 game season will continue to apply. The SPFL has confirmed that games will restart on 20th March with discussions ongoing about the number of games to be played to complete the season.

Since the shutdown, due to the generosity and unwavering support of our fans, we have been able to invest heavily in strengthening our playing squad – arguably more than any other team in SPFL Leagues 1 and 2. Our sole purpose in doing so is to give our team the best possible chance to win more football matches, improve our current league position and give our supporters a team to be proud of. We signed experienced players in the January window and our management team has continued to worked tirelessly over this shutdown period to ensure our playing squad is as well prepared as it possibly can be to produce positive performances and results for the remainder of this season, as and when it does resume.

This is undoubtedly going to be an extremely challenging period both mentally and physically for all of our players and staff. We know they will embrace the challenge ahead in the most professional and dedicated manner and will be giving everything to improve our current league position. We know our supporters will be right behind the team as always and would like to thank all of them for their unwavering support of the team and the Club during these difficult times.
