Match Preview | Brechin City v Cowdenbeath - By Steven Mew

City head into the last pre-split fixture against Cowdenbeath tomorrow evening looking to reduce the gap at the foot of League 2.

A damaging defeat against Annan Athletic on Saturday saw City slip 8 points behind tomorrow's opponents - meaning that Michael Paton's side almost certainly need to bag all 3 points against the Blue Brazil to have any hope of avoiding bottom.

Gary Bollan's men travel to Glebe Park having also suffered a heavy defeat at the weekend, losing 5-1 at home to play-off chasing Stirling Albion.

TEAM NEWS
City will definitely be without the experienced Abdul Osman through suspension after the midfielder was sent off for two bookable offences in the match against Annan on Saturday. Also likely to miss out will be defender Gerry McLauchlan and striker Rory Currie through injury.

MANAGERS COMMENTS
Reflecting on a disappointing defeat at Annan on Saturday, Michael Paton said, "I felt our heads went down after the first goal and we never got a grip of the game at any point. We had a good chance through Adam Devine (at 1-0) but other than that I felt we didn't threaten enough. We were far too easy to play against - we need to show far more hunger and desire than we did on Saturday."

Looking ahead to the fixture against Cowdenbeath, Michael said, "It's a must win game and that's the message we've put across to the players. We need to put on a performance that's worthy of earning all three points. We've had plaudits for some games but at the end of the day it's the points that matter. The majority of the games we are holding on but it's lapses of concentration that are costing us. To give credit to the lads, in some matches they've taken a doing but they've reacted well. Hopefully we can hit the ground running against Cowdenbeath because it is a cup final for us."

PREVIOUS MEETING
Cowdenbeath 2-0 Brechin City - 19th December 2020
City missed the opportunity to drag themselves off the foot of the division as they slipped to defeat against fellow strugglers Cowdenbeath at Central Park in December. Goals in either half from Craig Barr and former City striker Iain Russell did the damage.
