Match Preview | Deveronvale v Brechin City
- By
Steven Mew
Following consecutive home matches to open up the season, City face their first Highland League trip tomorrow afternoon as we make the trip to Banff to face Deveronvale.
City go into the clash at Royal Princess Park off the back of two comfortable victories in the league, which followed an impressive victory over Alloa Athletic in the Premier Sports Cup.
The Vale, meanwhile, opened up their campaign with a 3-0 defeat against one of the league favourites in Brora Rangers, before picking up an impressive win away to Nairn County last weekend.
TEAM NEWS
With on-loan Aberdeen midfielder Jack Milne returning from suspension, City will have a full compliment to choose from.
MANAGERS COMMENTS
Manager Andy Kirk was a happy man following a comfortable win over Keith last weekend, stating, "It was four goals and a clean sheet on top of the win last weekend so we're pleased with that. There were many pleasing aspects and although there is still plenty of things we need to be better at, we are happy with the effort that the players are giving us.
"We're not going to have the same situation every week - there are going to be games where we will have a lot of the ball but will come up against tough opposition that will defend well and make it difficult for us so it's important that we make the most of our opportunities. Goals change games and the quicker we can put chances away it gives us a bit of breathing space. We're pleased with a lot of elements of our game and we're getting into good situations so hopefully the sharper the players get as the season goes on it will become better for us."
Attacker David Cox came on with quarter of an hour remaining against Keith and made a real impact. Kirk commented, "Coxy was chomping at the bit to get on the pitch. I just wanted to be careful with him as he felt his hamstring against Alloa so we had to make sure that we managed that situation properly. He made a big difference for us when he came on with his energy and his quality in the two goals."
Looking ahead to the match against Deveronvale tomorrow, he added, "It's the first away trip and it will be a different experience for us - it's a new ground which a lot of the players have never been to before. We go up there with a game plan and try to impose our play on the opposition. We know that none of the games are going to be easy - we are coming up against decent teams who are hard-working so we'll need to at least match them in that respect if we are to earn something from the game"
