Match Preview | Brechin City v Vale of Leithen - By Steven Mew

It's Highland League against Lowland League at Glebe Park tomorrow afternoon as we welcome Vale of Leithen in the first round of the Scottish Cup.

With back-to-back wins against Formartine United and Nairn County, Andy Kirk's side will be aiming to continue the momentum against a Vale side that are still without a point after 12 matches in the Lowland League this season.

TEAM NEWS
City will be without St Johnstone pair Jack Wills and Max Kucheriavyi due to their respective loan agreements whilst striker Garry Wood is a doubt. Recent signing Kevin McHattie is continuing to progress well with his rehab but his debut for City is likely to be a number of weeks away.

MANAGERS COMMENTS
Reflecting on last weekend's victory at Nairn, Manager Andy Kirk commented, "The three points was the most important thing but what frustrated us is the lack of consistency in doing the ugly side of the game. The goal that we conceded was poor - it was a free header which we just didn't pick up.

"We were better in the second half and we dug in with ten men. There was a lot of effort there from the players but we need to sharpen up on decisions. Overall I thought our speed of play was poor and we didn't have the fluency that we normally have, however the pleasing thing is that the players kept going and kept threatening and creating chances."

Striker Julian Wade opened his account for the Club after coming on as a substitute with Kirk adding, "I think Julian's performances have been good - he's been getting into good positions and he'll be disappointed himself that he hadn't scored until Saturday. It was a real positive to see Julian get off the mark for the Club and I think there will be plenty more to come from him."

Looking ahead to tomorrow's cup tie, he said, "Getting through into the next round is what we want most but the players recognise aspects of the game that haven't been as good and they are working to put that right. This is a fantastic competition and if you can get through the first two or three rounds then it gives us the chance to be drawn against a big club. We need to take care of Saturday first and hopefully we can progress."
