After progressing in the Scottish Cup last weekend, City will be aiming to close the gap at the top of the Highland League as we play host to Strathspey Thistle tomorrow afternoon at Glebe Park.
With league leaders Fraserburgh amongst a number of sides out of Highland League action due to cup fixtures, a win for Andy Kirk's men would see them go within 9 points of the 'Broch' with a game in hand.
City come up against a Strathspey side that currently sit second from bottom in the league, having only won twice from their opening 14 fixtures.
TEAM NEWS
After missing a number of players last weekend, City are set to welcome back Jack Wills, Max Kucheriavyi, Cammie Ross and Marc Scott who were all unavailable for the cup tie against Haddington Athletic. Jack Milne and Jamie Bain, who missed out through injury, may come back into the fold.
Garry Wood and Kevin McHattie, who both made the bench last week following lengthy spells out have had another week of training under their belt and will be available for selection.
MANAGERS COMMENTS
Reflecting on last weekends Scottish Cup win over Haddington Athletic, Andy Kirk said,
"In cup competitions it's all about getting through to the next round. Having watched the game back, we were sloppy in terms of decision making and execution of passes. We didn't really get into any rhythm and made the game more difficult than what it needed to be.
"Credit to Haddington - they made it difficult for us. I was happy with the effort and workrate, we just lacked that quality at times in certain situations. It's always nice to come back from behind to get that late goal to take us through."
As has been widely publicised, Ewan Loudon and Sam Denham were involved in a serious car accident just hours before the match - with the latter playing 90 minutes and scoring his first senior goal. Andy remarked,
"It's an unbelievable feat what he achieved. When I got the phone call to say they had been in an accident, Sam was very upbeat and thankfully both were ok.
"We were cautious when they arrived at the ground but Sam said he was feeling good and wanted to play. He lasted 90 minutes and scored a goal but the main thing is that the two of them are both ok and huge credit to them for making themselves available for the game. There seems to have been no after effects and both trained well this week."
City have been handed a tough home tie against Darvel in the next round of the Scottish Cup, Andy commented,
"A home draw is what you want and there were a lot of big teams in the hat. Darvel will be a tough game, they have a good squad and plenty of experience within their group. We'll look forward to the tie and prepare properly to give ourselves the best possible chance of progressing again.
Looking ahead to another home fixture against Strathspey tomorrow afternoon, Andy said,
"I feel we need to get back to what we were doing at the start of the season in terms of our style of play and trying to dominate the game. I think we've lost our way a bit in the last couple of weeks - it has been scrappy at times but that has been affected by the number of players missing.
"It's all about winning the game, that's the most important thing. If we can do that with our style and get everyone firing then we should be in for a good afternoon but we can't underestimate the opposition. In this league a mistake can give the other team a real lift. It's something that we prepare well for and we'll treat this game the same as we do for every other one."
