Rothes v Brechin City | Match Preview - By Steven Mew

City are Moray-bound tomorrow afternoon as we travel to face Rothes at Mackessack Park.

Andy Kirk's side will be looking to continue their fine recent form of 7 straight league wins which has taken them within 3 points of the summit.

With league leaders Fraserburgh out of action due to Covid issues at Nairn County, a win would see City move level on points at the top.

TEAM NEWS
City will be without the services of top scorer Marc Scott after he hobbled off with an ankle injury against Deveronvale last week. The injury is not serious and Manager Andy Kirk is hopeful that 'Marco' will be back in action soon. He said, "Marc had rolled his ankle and that can take a couple of weeks. He's naturally fit so hopefully he'll be a quick healer. It was a bit painful after the game but it's getting a lot better by the day."

Kevin McHattie, who has missed the couple of matches, will continue to be assessed.

MANAGERS COMMENTS
Reflecting on the win over Deveronvale last weekend, Manager Andy Kirk said, "We were in complete control from start to finish and there were a lot of positives to take from the game."

Max Kucheriavyi put in a man of the match performance with 2 goals and an assist. Andy commented, "We've been telling him to do that more often (on the first goal) because he can strike the ball with real pace.

"For the free kick, the accuracy to get it up and down and into the corner with enough pace gave the keeper no chance. That's what he's capable of and he's done it a number of times this season."

City are on a run of 7 consecutive league wins which includes 5 clean sheets. Andy added, "Keeping clean sheets give us the base to go and win the game. We've looked solid at the back - we've defended well. All in all from front to back we've limited the opposition to very few chances and that is something that we are pleased with along with the creative play going forward."

Looking ahead to the trip against Rothes tomorrow, he said, "It'll be a difficult game and they are up at the top end of the league for a reason, Rothes are a decent side and they have some good players. It's away from home and we know it'll be a real challenge. Every week whether it's home or away we'll prepare in the right way and we go into each game with the same frame of mind."

PREVIOUS MEETING
Brechin City 2-2 Rothes -
A sublime stoppage time free kick from Ukranian youngster Max Kucheriavyi rescued a point for a below-par City against Rothes in August. It was a game in which City failed to excel and the visitors could perhaps consider themselves unfortunate not to have gone away with all three points.

Dave Cox headed City into a first half lead however Rothes took control with goals from Jack Brown and Aidan Wilson putting the Speysiders ahead. With just seconds remaining, Kucheriavyi earned City a point with an outstanding strike.
