Match Preview | Forres Mechanics v Brechin City
- By
Steven Mew
City will make their first ever visit to Mosset Park to face Forres Mechanics tomorrow afternoon aiming to make it three straight wins in the Highland League.
Following a stuttering start to the year, City have recovered with back-to-back wins and clean sheets against Fort William and Brora Rangers respectively.
Forres had a managerial change last week with Gordon Connelly stepping down due to personal circumstances, with Steven MacDonald replacing him. MacDonald will be tasked with improving the Can-Cans fortunes having won just once in their last 15 matches.
TEAM NEWS
City will be without on-loan defender Nathan Cooney who suffered a foot injury whilst training with parent club Dundee United during the week. Otherwise, Manager Andy Kirk will have a near full-strength squad to pick from.
MANAGERS COMMENTS
Manager Andy Kirk reflected on the last outing against Brora, which saw City come away with a 2-0 victory. He said, "I was really pleased with the result. The players showed real grit and determination throughout the 90 minutes and that was the difference for us. Some of the games you just have to roll your sleeves up, compete and work harder than the opposition and that was the case."
Ewan Loudon impressed up top for City and bagged a double, with Andy adding, "His two goals were brilliant and showed great technique. His workrate, energy and enthusiasm is why he's been given the opportunity. He's been waiting for a period of time and although he's had one or two opportunities in the team, he was maybe just not ready at that stage.
"When he came against Fort William he won a penalty for us then scored a great goal and his performance levels against Brora was really high. His maturity and consistency levels in training are getting better and hopefully he keeps improving."
The influential Max Kucheriavyi was recalled by parent club St Johnstone during the week and Kirk paid tribute to the talented Ukranian, saying "Max is probably impossible to replace. He's unique in terms of what he can do - especially his creativity, his free kicks and goals. We were lucky to have him for a period of time and experience what he can do but he's no longer part of our group. It now opens the door for someone else to step up and stake their claim in the team."
With a trip to Forres on the agenda tomorrow, Andy said, "We had some really good aspects to our game when we played Forres earlier in the season. However we've not been up there before - it's a different pitch and they'll be desperate to take points off us. We have to go up there with the right frame of mind and the right attitude - the same as what we did at Brora."
