Match Preview | Brechin City v Inverurie Locos - By Steven Mew

City return to Glebe Park for the first time in over a month looking to get back to winning ways against Inverurie Locos tomorrow afternoon.

A defeat in blustery conditions at Buckie on Saturday, along with results elsewhere left City in 5th place and a win tomorrow would see Andy Kirk's men leapfrog their opponents in the league table.

The Locos, who defeated City in the last meeting between the sides at Harlaw Park in October, head into the fixture off the back of a 3-2 win over Nairn County at the weekend.

TEAM NEWS
After missing through Covid last weekend, Kevin McHattie is back available with Andy Kirk likely to have a full squad to pick from for the game.

MANAGERS COMMENTS
Looking back at the defeat against Buckie Thistle last weekend, Manager Andy Kirk said, "The conditions had a major impact on the game - the pitch wasn't great and the wind was quite strong. It made it more difficult and there wasn't anything between the teams. We never worked their goalkeeper enough and Buckie had nothing really if I'm being honest. I thought we had the better of the play in the first half but neither team really did anything in the second half.

"It's a big error from the keeper that decided the game. It's one of those things - 9 times out of 10 he catches that comfortably and then it's a different game after that. The goal gave them a lift and something to hold on to.

"Jack is a young lad and this is his first experience in senior football - he's pulled off some magnificent saves this year and overall his contribution has been very high. We're pleased with that what he's done for us but unfortunately when goalkeepers make mistakes they result in a goal. There have been times where our defenders have made mistakes this season but Jack has pulled them out of a sticky wicket."

City had a trialist striker amongst the squad who made a late substitute appearance, with Andy adding, "We're constantly looking to improve the squad and we're having a look to see what's available. He came in and trained with us this week and he's looked sharp - it has given us the chance to have a proper look at him and we will take it from there."

Looking ahead to tomorrow's fixture against Inverurie Locos, Andy commented, "They were better than us the last time we played. They ran harder, worked harder and deserved to win albeit the goals we conceded were very poor. On the back of any defeat you want to put things right - Inverurie are around the same position of the league as us and they'll be looking to kick on. We go into every game with the mindset of trying to win and tomorrow is no different."

City were edged out by the Locos at Harlaw Park in October. A second half double by Neil Gauld had the home side in control before Kieran Inglis netted a penalty in stoppage time but it proved to be too little, too late for Andy Kirk's side.
