Match Preview | Brechin City v Brora Rangers - By Steven Mew

City have a break from league action tomorrow evening as we host Brora Rangers in the 2nd round of the GPH Builders Merchants Highland League Cup (kick off 8pm).

City had to make do without a fixture at the weekend due to a frozen pitch at Glebe Park, meanwhile Brora's home fixture against near neighbours Wick Academy survived the weather where Dale Gillespie's equaliser saw the Cattachs snatch a point at the death.

Tomorrow's tie will be played to a finish on the night. In the event of a draw, the match will go straight to a penalty shootout.

MANAGERS COMMENTS
Looking back at the defeat against Buckie Thistle last time out, Manager Andy Kirk said, "The conditions had a major impact on the game - the pitch wasn't great and the wind was quite strong. It made it more difficult and there wasn't anything between the teams. We never worked their goalkeeper enough and Buckie had nothing really if I'm being honest. I thought we had the better of the play in the first half but neither team really did anything in the second half.

"It's a big error from the keeper that decided the game. It's one of those things - 9 times out of 10 he catches that comfortably and then it's a different game after that. The goal gave them a lift and something to hold on to.

"Jack is a young lad and this is his first experience in senior football - he's pulled off some magnificent saves this year and overall his contribution has been very high. We're pleased with that what he's done for us but unfortunately when goalkeepers make mistakes they result in a goal. There have been times where our defenders have made mistakes this season but Jack has pulled them out of a sticky wicket."

City had a trialist striker amongst the squad who made a late substitute appearance, with Andy adding, "We're constantly looking to improve the squad and we're having a look to see what's available. He came in and trained with us this week and he's looked sharp - it has given us the chance to have a proper look at him and we will take it from there."
