Match Preview | Rothes v Brechin City - By Steven Mew

City's busy schedule continues tomorrow evening as we travel to face Rothes in a re-arranged Highland League fixture at Mackessack Park tomorrow evening (8pm kick off).

The games are coming thick and fast for City who head into the game off the back of 3 straight wins, netting 14 goals in the process.

Meanwhile due to numerous postponements, the Speysiders' momentum has been somewhat disrupted having played just 4 fixtures since the turn of the year - albeit these have all resulted in wins.

Ross Jack's side currently sit in 7th place in the league but have a number of games in hand over the sides directly above them in the league table, including City.

MANAGERS COMMENTS
Reflecting on a convincing victory over Wick at the weekend, Manager Andy Kirk said, "I was very pleased. I thought we looked a bit leggy and a yard off it in the first half but we've had a tough schedule over the last couple of weeks so it's understandable.

"We had to make two changes in the first half through injury and that was always going to have an impact on the system. It took us a while to get used to as Davo and Murray are big players in the middle of the pitch.

"We spoke at half time about what we could improve and sometimes it just takes a goal to give the team a bit of extra energy, and you could see that when we got the 2nd goal - it was like a completely different team. We were on the front foot, played some nice football and created opportunities.

"We could have probably had another couple of goals if we were more ruthless but I can't complain. It's five goals and the players worked extremely hard."

Marc Scott netted his first professional hat-trick in the game with Andy adding, "Marc is always a threat - he's quick and a really good finisher. He looks like he is getting back to his best after injury and covid. I actually said to him before the game that he is due a goal!"

Looking ahead to a difficult trip to face Rothes, he commented, "Hopefully we'll have one or two bodies back for Wednesday. It'll be a tough game, as they all are at this stage of the season. If we go about our business like we did in the second half on Saturday then we'll give ourselves a chance of getting the right result."

PREVIOUS MEETING
Brechin City 2-2 Rothes - 14th August 2022
A sublime stoppage time free kick from Ukranian youngster Max Kucheriavyi rescued a point for a below-par City against Rothes at Glebe Park in August. It was a game in which City failed to excel and the visitors could perhaps consider themselves unfortunate not to have gone away with all three points.

David Cox headed City into a first half lead before goals from Jack Brown and Aidan Wilson turned the game on its head. It looked as if the Speysiders were going to be heading home with all 3 points before Kucheriavyi stepped up with the equaliser in stoppage time.
