Match Preview | Brechin City v Clachnacuddin - By Steven Mew

Following eight consecutive wins, Manager Andy Kirk has challenged his side to win the remaining 3 matches to ensure the club finish the season on a high, starting with Clachnacuddin at Glebe Park tomorrow afternoon.

Despite this recent run, the impressive consistency of Fraserburgh and Buckie Thistle at the top, who both won in midweek, has effectively put an end to City's lingering title hopes.

Travelling to Glebe Park tomorrow is Clachnacuddin who currently sit in 11th position in the Highland League and go into the fixture off the back a 1-1 draw with Lossiemouth last weekend.

With games in hand over the sides directly above them, the Inverness outfit will still harbour ambitions of a top half finish.

TEAM NEWS
City will continue to be without a number of key players for tomorrow's match. The ever-present Jamie Bain will miss out with a fractured toe sustained in last weeks game whilst Ewan Loudon will be absent through glandular fever. Murray Mackintosh continues to be sidelined whilst the game is likely to come too soon for Jack Wills, Kieran Inglis and Michael Paton who are rated as doubtful.

MANAGERS COMMENTS
Reflecting on the win over Brora last weekend, Manager Andy Kirk said, "I thought we put in a good performance and we looked pretty comfortable as Brora didn't threaten us too much. We didn't create the usual number of chances but we were well on top. It was all about keeping the momentum going - there were players on the park that were carrying niggles and we were a bit light in terms of numbers. To get through that game with the win was fantastic for us."

The game saw Michael Cruickshank grab his first City goal for his hometown club with Andy adding, "Michael is a great lad, he's a Brechin boy and has a lot of passion for the club - you can see that in how he plays. He's very well liked at the club. I think everyone was delighted when he popped up at the back post to score with the header. Not only did he score but he also cleared one off the line at the other end."

David Cox also continued his rich vein of goalscoring form, with Andy commenting, "Coxy has been brilliant for us, particularly since the away game against Huntly where we've asked him to play through the middle and deal with the centre backs. He challenges for us, holds the ball up and gives us that out-ball. He's managed to get in amongst the goals and it'll be interesting in the next few games between him and Marc (Scott) who can finish as top scorer."

Attention now turns to a home fixture against Clachnacuddin tomorrow afternoon. Andy said, "After the cup defeat against Brora, we set the gauntlet down to the players that we needed to win every remaining game and see where it takes us. We have a lot of quality in the squad and if we can take the lead then we're a difficult team to handle. There is three games left and it would be a shame to waste all the work and effort that they've put in of late. We want to win these next 3 games and finish the season the best that we possibly can.

"The reverse fixture up in Inverness was a difficult one - it was one where we were on top and in control but we just needed that goal and we got our reward when Marc Scott scored the winner. Clach will come here and make it difficult for us and they have some decent players amongst their squad.

A goal midway through the second half from talisman Marc Scott proved to be the difference as City edged out the Lilywhites at Grant Street Park in November. Despite the narrow scoreline, it was a game in which City dominated proceedings for much of the 90 minutes.
