Prior to tomorrow's fixture, a plaque will be unveiled to commemorate the sporting achievement of Brechiner Bob Middleton.
Robert (Bob) Connon Middleton was a Brechin-born goalkeeper who represented Scotland against Northern Ireland on the 22nd February 1930. He participated in a 3-1 win for Scotland in what was to be his only international appearance.
To date he is the only ‘Brechiner’ to be capped for his country of birth. Bob played for several teams during his career, including Brechin.
He also served with distinction on the Brechin City FC board and coached several local teams after the end of his playing days.
The Scottish cap awarded to Bob was presented to the club by his family and hangs in the club boardroom. Middleton Park in Brechin is named after him to celebrate the sense of community pride reflected in his sporting achievement.
Visitors to Glebe Park will now have a visible reminder of the day a Brechiner pulled on an international jersey and was cheered on by his hometown on that notable day in 1930.
The plaque is situated at the Trinity Road turnstiles and will be unveiled at approximately 1:30pm tomorrow afternoon.
