Match Preview | Inverurie Locos v Brechin City - By Steven Mew

Following a postponement and two cup fixtures in recent weeks, City are back in league action for the first time in almost a month tomorrow as we make the short journey up to face Inverurie Locos at Harlaw Park.

Despite a valiant effort, City eventually lost out to Inverness CT on penalties in the SPFL Trust Trophy last Saturday. However there were plenty of positives to take having impressively fought back from 3-1 down against the Championship side.

City will be looking to continue their incredible league form of 18 straight wins but will be given a stern test against an Inverurie side that defeated City at Harlaw Park last year.

The Locos will be looking to get back on track following a couple of disappointing results in recent weeks. They exited the Scottish Cup after losing 3-1 away to Hill of Beath Hawthorn whilst they needed a late equaliser to earn a point against bottom side Strathspey Thistle last weekend.

TEAM NEWS
City are likely to be without the services of midfielder Michael McArthur who limped off in the first half of Saturday's cup tie at Inverness. Otherwise Manager Andy Kirk should have the rest of his squad available, albeit a few niggles continue to be monitored.

MANAGERS COMMENTS
Reflecting on a brave showing against Inverness last weekend, Andy was full of pride for his players. He said, "The players were great last week. We were facing a strong side in a much higher position in terms of leagues. We spoke a lot to the players about believing in themselves and playing to our strengths. Overall I thought we were fantastic and worked really hard all over the pitch whilst playing some nice football. We created some good chances and perhaps on another day with a bit of luck we could have got ourselves through. It shows how far they've come as a group of players since the start of the season.

"At 3-1 down, on another day the team could go and concede 4 or 5 but we showed guts and belief to get ourselves back into the game. It shows what we've instilled in the group and the types of characters we have in there. They never know when they are beaten and even in the last 5 minutes we were still trying to get a winner.

"Lenny got close to a couple of the penalties and he knows himself he should have kept one of them out. However Lenny has pulled off two or three fantastic penalty saves for us this year. With Jamie Bain hitting the bar and Inverness getting one in off the post, it was small margins and unfortunately it didn't go for us on the day.

"Aaron Arnott got some much needed minutes and it will be probably be another couple of weeks before we see the best of him in terms of fitness levels and getting game time. I thought he did well on Saturday in what was a difficult game to make your debut."

After 70 games without a goal for City, remarkably Euan Spark made it 2 goals in the space of a week with the equaliser against the Caley Jags. Andy added, "Sparky has been great for us. He's getting fitter, brings experience to the back line and he's good with the players. We're delighted he's doing well and he will be a big player for us this year. "

Looking forward to a trip to face Inverurie on Saturday, he said, "We slipped up there last year because we didn't work hard enough. Inverurie were really up for the game and they won on the night, and rightly so. We didn't apply ourselves properly and do the basics right but that is something the current group haven't been guilty of at all. We are under no illusions it's going to be a really tough game as they are a good, organised team."
