Match Preview | Brora Rangers v Brechin City
- By
Steven Mew
City make the long journey north to Brora tomorrow afternoon as they look to get back to winning ways following a share of the spoils against Huntly in midweek.
City's 19 game winning run may have come to an end on Wednesday, however they remain top of the division ahead of what will be a tough fixture against a Cattachs side who themselves could leapfrog City with a victory.
TEAM NEWS
City will continue to be without Michael McArthur, whilst late checks will be made on Nathan Cooney and Fraser MacLeod who both picked up injuries against Huntly on Wednesday evening.
MANAGERS COMMENTS
Manager Andy Kirk reflected on the Huntly game in midweek, commenting "I was disappointed with the first half. We started off ok and got ourselves in front but then we concede a silly free-kick and didn't pick up in the box. We then concede a bit of a freak goal. These things happen in football but there was no reaction after that - we stopped playing and lost our rhythm a wee bit.
"We totally dominated the game in the second half and their full team was behind the ball for a lot of it. We hit the post, hit the bar and had one off the line - we just couldn't make that breakthrough. On another night with a bit of luck we could have scored 5 goals but it wasn't to be.
"We're disappointed but there's the bigger picture where we've won 8 league games and drawn once so we're still in a good place. With the game coming quickly on Saturday it gives us the chance to get it out of our system."
Attention now turns to another important fixture up at Dudgeon Park tomorrow. Andy said, "Brora will be desperate to keep their run going - they won a cup recently and they are coming off the back of a big scoreline on Wednesday. We go up there looking to put on a good display and if we can take our chances when they come along then we've got a great chance of coming away with a result."

PREVIOUS MEETING
Brechin City 2-1 Brora Rangers - 26th March 2022
City all but cemented a top 3 finish in the Highland League last season by fending off a late Brora revival to seal a crucial 2-1 win.
David Cox’s opener brought him level with Marc Scott on 17 goals for the season whilst local lad Michael Cruickshank netted his first City goal in an impressive home performance. Dale Gillespie pulled one back from the spot in stoppage time, but it all too little too late for the Cattachs.
