- By
Steven Mew
City are back in Highland League action for the first time in three weeks as we welcome Deveronvale to Glebe Park tomorrow afternoon.
Deveronvale will travel south full of confidence having won their last two matches, including a 7-0 thrashing of bottom side Strathspey Thistle last time out.
After progressing to the semi-finals of the Highland League Cup following a 2-0 win over Lossiemouth last weekend, City's attention now turns back to the bread and butter of league action and will be looking to maintain their impressive unbeaten start.
TEAM NEWS
After missing out last weekend, Michael Cruickshank and Anthony McDonald will return to the side whilst the injured Hamish Thomson and Jordan Northcott continue to be sidelined.
MANAGERS COMMENTS
Reflecting on the cup win over Lossiemouth last weekend, Manager Andy Kirk commented, "It was a difficult game away from home - Lossiemouth got bodies behind the ball and were well organised and tried to hit us on the counter. I thought we had a lot of the play first half but the final ball was just missing. We found that bit of quality with a fine finish from Grady just before half time.
"Second half we didn't play as well as we would have liked - I don't know if Marc Scott missing the chance at the start of the half had anything to do with it. It gave Lossie a little bit of a lift and the second half was a bit scrappy which happens at this level of football.
"We were delighted to get the second goal and we were perhaps unfortunate not to get another one. Fraser's goal showed great ability and awareness and we see that in training. He has has a knack of dropping a shoulder and finding a bit of space - he's improved a lot and he will continue to do that as his attitude is fantastic.
"The players know themselves that some of the play in the second half wasn't good enough but as long as they learn from it that's the main thing.
"Tomorrow's match gives us the chance to get that second half performance out of our system. The players have trained really well this week and they are raring to go again. In the last match against Deveronvale up there we didn't start well enough and didn't get the levels right. We need to start well and keep pushing."
