Match Preview | Brechin City v Banks O' Dee - By Steven Mew

Glebe Park will host some festive football tomorrow evening as Banks O' Dee travel down the A90 for what will be the first competitive meeting between the sides.

With last weekend's top of the table tussle against Buckie Thistle succumbing to the frost, City head into the match off the back of a thumping 7-1 win over Deveronvale a fortnight ago and confidence is high amongst the players.

Tomorrow's visitors currently sit in a lowly 17th position, largely owing to a 24-point deduction due to an administrative error. The Dee' have settled fairly well into the Highland League since their promotion from the North Region Premier League in the summer and will be looking to rise up the league over the coming months.

TEAM NEWS
Manager Andy Kirk hopes to welcome back Jordan Northcott to the squad after missing the last 8 weeks due to a broken collarbone. Hamish Thomson continues to make good progress with a return likely after the new year.

MANAGERS COMMENTS
Reflecting on the thumping 7-1 win over Deveronvale last time out, Manager Andy Kirk commented, "In the first half we conceded a really poor goal and we just didn't really get going. We had plenty of the ball but we didn't have enough energy and didn't create enough. We had a chat at half time and the second half was excellent. Credit to the players as they put a lot into what was a really positive display with some great goals."

As well as another hat-trick for Grady McGrath, Ewan Loudon put in a fine performance which was capped with a brace with Andy adding, "We've been saying to Ewan for a while to shoot - we see it every week in training that he can strike a ball really well. If he can get himself in a decent position it's a case of not taking that extra touch and getting a shot away. Hopefully that first goal will give him the confidence to do that more often. Ewan is showing a real hunger and desire to be in the team and hopefully he can keep those levels up as the season goes on."

On-loan Raith midfielder netted his first City goal after coming on as a substitute. Andy said, "Aaron is a very good player technically. The team has been doing really well and once your lose your place it can be difficult to get back in. He can consider himself unfortunate but he came on against Lossiemouth and did really well and obviously got his goal against Deveronvale. He has a lot of ability and we hope he can push on a bit."

Looking ahead to the first half of the double header against Bank O' Dee, he City Manager commented, "It will be a very tough game - it's a side that we haven't faced and they've had some excellent results against the top teams in the Highland League. They've been deducted points this year and that's a situation that they find themselves in but they are a very good side. If we produce a performance like we did in the second half against Deveronvale then that will give us a platform to try and get the result that we are looking for."
