Match Preview | Banks O' Dee v Brechin City - By Steven Mew

It's the second part of our double header against Banks O' Dee tomorrow evening as City make the relatively short journey up to Spain Park for the first time.

Both sides will be hard pushed to produce a more entertaining encounter than the one last Friday night which ended in a 4-4 draw, with City storming back from a 3-goal deficit at half time.

With nearest challengers Buckie Thistle out of action until Tuesday, City have the chance to go 4 points clear at the top with a win.

TEAM NEWS
Jordan Northcott made his return as a substitute against Banks O' Dee last Friday and came through unscathed. City will welcome back Anthony McDonald following illness, whilst the Manager estimates Hamish Thomson is a couple of weeks away.

MANAGERS COMMENTS
Reflecting on the 4-4 draw against Banks O' Dee last week, Manager Andy Kirk commented, "The players know themselves that we've played much better this year. It was extremely poor defending in the first half and lack of communication and organisation. Sometimes you get away with it and on Friday we didn't. The biggest thing for me was the character the players showed in the second half to not only bring it back to 3-3, but to show the fight to come back and score a 4th after conceding again.

"On another night we might have edged it but it's important that don't keep giving teams a head start and expect that we are always going to get back in the game. The boys have been consistent this year and they've put on some great performances so we have to give them credit.

"We spoke at half time about not getting frustrated and if we could get an early goal then we had a chance. When we missed the penalty you wonder if it wasn't going to be our night but we managed to get that early goal. After getting ourselves back into it at 3-3 we conceded a really poor goal but credit to Banks O' Dee, they took their opportunities well. They are a decent side and certainly one of the stronger teams in the league."

Botti Biabi came on as a half time substitute which helped turn the game in City's favour, with Andy adding, "Botti had missed the whole week through illness - he never trained Monday or Wednesday leading up to the game and we didn't think he was right to start. However he made the difference when he came on with his strength and pace. I think there is a lot more to come from Botti and I'd like to see that more often. On his day he's a real handful and we're hopeful we will kick on for us."

Looking ahead to tomorrow's fixture on an artificial surface, he said, "It's a pitch that both teams can play football on and that's exciting. However having a good playing surface comes second to working harder than the opposition and that was something we didn't do enough of last week. We need to up our levels of desire and workrate and that will give us the platform to go on and get a result."

PREVIOUS MEETING
Brechin City 4-4 Banks O' Dee - 23rd December 2022
City and Banks O' Dee served up an early Christmas cracker at Glebe Park last Friday as City came back from a 3-goal deficit at half time to preserve their unbeaten status.

A great second half display saw Brechin fight their way back into the game after being 3 goals down at the break. Goals from Botti Biabi, Fraser MacLeod, Grady McGrath and Marc Scott in the second half helped Brechin turn the score line around which looked a challenging task at the break.
