Match Preview | Nairn County v Brechin City
- By
Steven Mew
After a long journey to Wick last weekend, City are clocking up the miles again as we travel to Station Park to face Nairn County tomorrow.
Despite a disappointing 1-1 draw against bottom side Strathspey Thistle last weekend, Nairn have shown considerable improvement following a slow start to the season and have only lost once in their last 13 outings.
City will be looking to continue to continue their unbeaten run in the league following a 3-0 win over Wick Academy last weekend.
TEAM NEWS
Euan Spark continues to make good progress with his ankle injury, however he will miss out alongside Michael McArthur. After missing out last weekend, Hamish Thomson is likely to return to the squad. Otherwise, City will have the rest of the squad available for selection.
MANAGERS COMMENTS
Speaking on the victory over Wick Academy last weekend, Manager Andy Kirk commented, "It was a difficult afternoon and obviously the furthest we have to travel. The pitch and conditions were poor but we've come away with a 3-0 win and it was comfortable in the end. I thought we had most of the play in the first half and with a bit more force we could have put ourselves ahead a bit further. The guys had to show a lot of dig and character - it was all about getting that result and heading back down the road again."
Captain Jamie Bain netted his first goals for the club, including the opener with Andy adding, "The first goal was terrific. Baino has come from a really deep position and it was great communication from him to shout for the pass and he's shown great technique to keep the ball down and put us ahead. He was really confident with the penalty as well - we're really pleased for him. He also hit the bar with a good strike and he was certainly going for the hat-trick late on. He's been a great servant for us and he'll be glad to get a goal or two - and hopefully more before the end of the season!"
Ahead of tomorrow's trip to face a strong Nairn side, Andy said, "It's a venue we won at last season but it's a different team and a new manager which has given them a lift. I think they had a wee spell where they went 8 or 9 games unbeaten so we're expecting to come up against a good side. We'll prepare properly and if we can impose ourselves on the game and show the same attitude and application as we have all season then it'll give us a great opportunity to win the game."
