Match Preview | Huntly v Brechin City
- By
Steven Mew
After suffering their first league defeat of the season in midweek, City have little time to dwell on the result as they look to bounce back against Huntly at Christie Park tomorrow.
Andy Kirk's men will come up against a Huntly side that picked up a creditable point in a 2-2 draw at Glebe Park in October, the first time that City had dropped points in the league this campaign.
This will be the third consecutive home match for the Black & Golds, having won their last two outings against Lossiemouth and most recently Keith on Wednesday.
TEAM NEWS
Central defender Nathan Cooney will be assessed ahead of the game after coming off with a slight injury late on against Formartine on Wednesday night. Michael McArthur and Euan Spark will miss out, although it is hoped both will be amongst the squad next weekend.
MANAGERS COMMENTS
Reflecting on the first league defeat of the season, Manager Andy Kirk said, "I thought we started the game quite well and Marc Scott's goal was not offside, whilst it looked like both of their strikers were off for their goal. If we go ahead then the game is totally different but that's the rub of the green that we didn't get. It gave Formartine a lift and something to fight for because they are ahead in the game. Overall we didn't do enough in the game and we didn't work their goalkeeper enough, but on the other hand I don't think Lenny had a save to make.
"For me Formartine should have had a red card when Marc Scott got pulled down on the edge of the box and even their Manager thought it should have been a sending off. We should have done better with the second goal. We had 2 or 3 attempts to clear the ball and we didn't do it and it was a decent finish.
"We have a number of players at the minute that aren't at their best and too many of them at the one time. Some are nowhere near the levels that they've been at and that becomes an issue - you can only do that for so long before things start to go against you. It's disappointing but we've got to regroup and look to get another run going. It is what it is and we have to take it on the chin and look back at what we've achieved so far this season."
Andy is looking for a reaction from his players against Huntly tomorrow, he added, "We had the boys in training last night to make sure we prepare properly for tomorrow. It's an ideal opportunity to quickly put in a performance and hopefully get a win to make everyone feel good again. It's not going to be straight-forward as Huntly have picked up recently and it will be a difficult battle."

PREVIOUS MEETING
Brechin City 2-2 Huntly - 5th October 2022
City's first dropped points of the league campaign came against Huntly back in October. It proved to a hugely frustrating night for City who had hit the woodwork three times during the 90 minutes, but were unable to force a winner against a hard working Huntly side.
Anthony McDonald gave City an early lead before a quickfire double from Andrew Hunter turned the game on its head. Jordan Northcott netted the equaliser shortly after the hour mark but despite their best efforts, City were unable to force home a winner.
