Match Preview | Fraserburgh v Brechin City - By Steven Mew

Following a 10-goal victory at the weekend, City's title credentials will be given a stern test at Bellslea Park tomorrow evening as we travel to face Fraserburgh.

A double figure haul against Wick Academy will have undoubtedly given City players plenty of confidence, but City Management and players will be acutely aware that they will need to be at their best against a strong Broch side who inflicted defeat on City in both fixtures last season.

TEAM NEWS
After coming through the fixture against Wick unscathed, Manager Andy Kirk should have another full compliment to choose from.

MANAGERS COMMENTS
Andy Kirk was delighted with the result and performance as City thumped Wick 10-0 at the weekend. He said, "The boys were looking forward to the game after the performance on Wednesday and it was about trying to build on that showing and see where it takes us. I thought we were great and kept our focus and kept trying to do things properly. It was extremely pleasing that we stuck to the task and kept going until the final whistle and the quality of some of the goals was brilliant.

"We didn't speak before the game about trying to boost our goal difference. Our performances in recent games hadn't been up to the levels expected and we were just looking to get back to where we were performance wise. It could have been easy to take our foot off the pedal at half time and credit to the players, they came out in the second half and went at it again.

"Grady will get the headlines and rightly so - it's not easy to score 5 goals in a game. However there are a lot of players out there that are starting to perform to the levels that they are capable of. It was great to see Marc and Kieran both getting a couple of goals. Ewan Loudon and Jordan Northcott both came on and made a real impact too."

Looking ahead to a tough trip to face Fraserburgh, Andy commented, "Tomorrow will be a completely different game and we will face a lot more pressure. Fraserburgh were a strong team last year - we've not faced them this season yet and I'm expecting a tough game. The team need to be at it but as individuals, they need to carry on their performance level that they've showed over the last two games. If we do that then we can come out with the result that we are looking for.

PREVIOUS MEETING
Brechin City 3-5 Fraserburgh - 3rd January 2022
The last fixture between the sides is one that City will not look back at too fondly as Fraserburgh fought back from three goals down to take the points against a City side that finished the game with 9 men.

Andy Kirk's side had come flying out the traps and were 3-0 up within 22 minutes with goals coming from a William West OG, Kieran Inglis (pen) and Garry Wood. Paul Young pulled one back for the Broch just after the half hour mark before the turning point of the game on the stroke of half time, with Max Kucheriavyi sent off for a late challenge.

It was more or less one way traffic in the second period as the visitors fought back. Sean Butcher grabbed a second midway through the half before Scott Barbour netted from the spot 3 minutes from time to equalise. The Broch weren't finished there, with an own goal from Iain Davidson in stoppage time putting them ahead before Barbour netted his second from the spot to round off a miserable second half for City.
