Match Preview | Brechin City v Turriff United - By Steven Mew

After a gruelling 90 minutes against Fraserburgh in midweek, City are back at it tomorrow afternoon as we take on Turriff United at Glebe Park.

Despite a late penalty miss costing City what could have been a precious win at Bellslea, Manager Andy Kirk was keen to focus on the positives as his side recorded a third straight clean sheet in the league.

Visiting the Glebe tomorrow is a Turriff side who have made considerable progress on last season, with Dean Donaldson's side on course to double their tally of points from the 2021/22 campaign.

The Aberdeenshire side lost their last fixture against Inverurie Locos last weekend, but were victorious in the two league games prior against Strathspey Thistle and Rothes

TEAM NEWS
Following his sending off late on against Fraserburgh on Wednesday evening, Ewan Loudon will miss out through suspension. Otherwise, the Manager should have a full squad at his disposal.

MANAGERS COMMENTS
Reflecting on the hard-earned point at Fraserburgh in midweek, Manager Andy Kirk said, "It's a difficult place to go against a strong team and the weather conditions didn't help either with the wind picking up a fair bit in the second half. We probably had a bit more of the play in the first half but it was quite scrappy and conditions in the second half made it a lot more difficult to get out. Lenny was barely reaching the halfway line with his kicks so it became a difficult challenge.

"We felt that it was one of those games where a set-play or something special would win it for either side. If you take the penalty out of it, there were plenty of positives to take and you can't argue with what is a good point. We didn't work their goalkeeper enough and I think Lenny himself only had one save to make in the first half which you'd expect him to make. We didn't play the football that we'd like to play but we battled, competed and fought for every ball and we were just a kick away from getting the reward for it.

We are gutted that we didn't convert the penalty and 9 times out of 10 Botti would put that away. He was down about it after the game but we've got to back him. Both Inglis and McGrath have missed penalties this season and I think the last player that scored a penalty for us was Jamie Bain against Wick. Botti fancied it on Wednesday - he was confident and wanted to take it. When you've got a player like that you've got to try and back him but it just wasn't to be.

"It was another 90 minutes in the legs of both Sparky and Hamish who have both been out for some time and they looked solid and defended well. It's good to have those two back and they give us a real presence. We didn't look like we would concede and that's getting back to how we were at the start of the season. Overall it was a point to our total and another clean sheet. We'd have obviously preferred to come away with 3 points but we've still given ourselves a chance."

Looking ahead to the fixture against Turriff United at Glebe Park tomorrow, he said, "There are players that can come in to the starting 11 - we've got the likes of Anthony McDonald and Nathan Cooney who were on the bench on Wednesday and Jordan Northcott came on the second half. There are options to change things and it doesn't weaken the team in any way, just the dynamics and that's something that is exciting for us. We could bring in a couple of players to rest others if we feel that's the right thing to do. We need to let the last couple of days digest a bit and see how everyone is feeling tomorrow and then we'll make a decision."

Grady McGrath netted the third goal within 10 seconds of the start of the second half before Callan Gray pulled one back for the hosts. City made sure of the win with a 4th goal just before the hour mark as Kieran Inglis converted from the spot following a foul on McHattie in the box.
