Match Preview | Keith v Brechin City
- By
Steven Mew
City head into their penultimate league fixture of the season against Keith tomorrow evening knowing at least a point will ensure a final day title decider at the weekend.
Andy Kirk and his players can't afford to be complacent against the Maroons at Kynoch Park and full focus will be on gaining a positive result.
City go into the game off the back of a 2-1 victory over Clachnacuddin on Saturday, with goals from Botti Biabi and Anthony McDonald earning City the all-important 3 points.
Despite a narrow defeat against Inverurie Locos on Saturday, Keith have enjoyed an upturn in form having gone 4 without defeat in the run-up to that fixture.
TEAM NEWS
Manager Andy Kirk should continue to have a fully fit squad at his disposal, with the only doubt being Kieran Inglis who came off with a slight injury against Clachnacuddin at the weekend.
MANAGERS COMMENTS
Looking back at the narrow victory over Clachnacuddin at the weekend, Manager Andy Kirk commented, "The result was the most important thing. It could have been a lot more comfortable - we had a number of chances and Grady could have had a hat-trick - he's such a good finisher and you'd have expected him to put them away.
"It was a lapse in concentration for their goal - we just didn't pick up at the corner and then we have to try and get back in the game. Credit to the players as they did that and we eventually got there in the end."
Anthony McDonald was introduced at the break and the playmaker made an immediate impact with a goal three minutes into the second half. Andy added, "We know the quality that Ants has and we just need to utilise him in the right games. We got a bit of magic out of him on Saturday and that proved to be the difference- it was a great finish from him. We didn't have enough of the play in the second half to get him on the ball as much as we'd like."
Attention now turns to the match against Keith tomorrow evening, Andy said, "We have a job to do to make Saturday's game relevant. We need to take care of the game tomorrow night to give us a chance of winning a title. It's been a tough schedule for the players but it gives us the chance to build momentum. We go into the game tomorrow with the belief that we can put in a performance worthy of winning the game. Under no circumstances are we taking the game lightly, as Keith will be a tough team to play against away from home and they will be desperate to win the game as well."
