Match Preview | Spartans v Brechin City - By Steven Mew

After lifting silverware last weekend, City's quest for promotion continues tomorrow afternoon as we face Spartans in the 1st leg of the Pyramid Playoff Semi-Final.

City players and supporters celebrated clinching the Highland League title but full focus will now be on gaining promotion back to the SPFL.

They will come up against the Edinburgh side who sealed the Lowland League title with a week to spare. Following a slow start to the season, they finished the campaign with an impressive 19-game unbeaten streak.

TEAM NEWS
Andy Kirk will continue to have a full squad at his disposal for the trip to Edinburgh tomorrow.

MANAGERS COMMENTS
Reflecting on a memorable day at Buckie last weekend, Manager Andy Kirk beamed, "The script couldn't have been better - taking it to the last game and winning it late on, it was fairytale stuff. It was a fantastic experience for everybody associated with the club.

"We'd have obviously liked to have it done with games to spare but being four minutes away from potentially not winning the league then scoring the goal and seeing all the fans on the pitch - it was a special moment. This is what players and supporters will remember for a long, long time.

"We were delighted to get it done, we had a really tough run-in with 4 games in hand at one stage but huge credit to the players as they were all excellent.

"It was a difficult game and playing away to Buckie at any stage is difficult. They are a strong team and we had the added pressure of needing the win to secure the title. The players all stood up to be counted and they deserved the victory.

"You can argue that we get the goals but the block from McHattie at 1-0 probably secures the win. It frustrated them even more and was just as important as the goals.

"The fans were brilliant and turning up at the Glebe before we left was special and got the players fired up. As a footballer when you turn up and there's a good crowd there it makes things so much better and thankfully we got the result for the fans. They've turned up in great numbers and we are very grateful.

"Winning leagues in that fashion don't come around that often so you've got to enjoy the moment but it's only part of the job. Our aim at the start of the season was to gain promotion and we now have a chance to put in a performance over the next two games to try and reach the final."

Focus now turns to the playoff tie against Spartans tomorrow, a side that City defeated narrowly in a friendly at the start of the season. Andy said, "Pre-season is completely different and our team has changed since then, and I'm sure Spartans have added some players as well. They've had a fantastic season as well and they have a very strong team with some good individual players.

"It will be a tough game but if we play our style, get the ball down and impose ourselves on the game in the same manner as we have done over the last few weeks then we'll give ourselves a great chance."
