Match Preview | Brechin City v Livingston - By Steven Mew

City kick start their 2023/24 campaign tomorrow afternoon as we play host to David Martindale’s Livingston side in Group C of the Viaplay Cup.

It’s straight in at the deep end for Brechin as they face the highest ranked side in the group, with the Lions finishing 8th in the Scottish Premiership last season. However, Manager Andy Kirk and his players are relishing the prospect of the challenge ahead.

TEAM NEWS
City are likely to be at near full strength, with a doubt over midfielder Anthony McDonald who is struggling with a back problem.

MANAGERS COMMENTS
Reflecting on the pre-season schedule, Manager Andy Kirk commented, "It's been a positive pre-season overall - we've had a few trialists in and we've played teams of various levels. Arbroath were a strong one to start and Dundee was always going to be tough as well. We then had a closed door game against Dundee North End which was a good workout for both teams and then we had Brechin Vics on Saturday past which proved to be quite straight-forward for us. I'm happy with the fitness levels and attitude of the players and it all starts again tomorrow!"

A number of new players have arrived at Glebe Park over the summer and Andy is happy with the way they've integrated into the squad. He said, "It always take a bit of time with new faces coming in and that brings fresh energy and enthusiasm. They've settled in well and we're pleased overall with the players that we've brought in."

Looking ahead to tomorrow's match against Livi, Andy added, "It's a good opportunity for us - there will be no pressure. We just need to go out and put on a display and give a good account of ourselves. We'll need to be at our best to take anything from the game as Livingston are obviously a top flight side and they have a lot of quality in their squad. It's a challenge for us and one that we are looking forward to."
