Match Preview | Clyde v Brechin City - By Steven Mew

City head into their final Viaplay Cup fixture against Clyde this evening looking to finish the group stage on a high.

Despite losing the opening 3 games in the competition, City have earned plaudits for the way they have competed against full time opposition, with the last two matches against Hamilton Accies and Cove Rangers being won by just a single goal.

Tomorrow's clash at the ZLX Stadium, where League 2 Clyde are currently ground sharing with Hamilton, will give Manager Andy Kirk a more accurate gauge of the level his squad is at ahead of Saturday's league opener against Formartine United.

The Bully Wee opened up their Viaplay Cup campaign with 3-1 and 5-2 defeats against Hamilton and Cove respectively.

TEAM NEWS
City will be without Anthony McDonald whilst there is a doubt over Kevin McHattie who missed Saturday's match against Cove Rangers.

MANAGERS COMMENTS
Following the narrow defeat against Cove Rangers at the weekend, Manager Andy Kirk said, "We had wee spells where we did ok but for the most of it I was disappointed to be fair. We got in good positions and lost the ball and we made some poor decisions defensively. It's still early in the season for us but we've got to be better.

"I know we were up against a better side but we had a chance to go 3-1 ahead just after half time which we didn't take and you always run the risk at that point of being punished. I know how good we can be and we could have won that game, but we conceded some goals that were avoidable.

"The players are an honest group and they are working hard - but some of the decision making needs to be better. If we can tidy up on our decision making and execution then we've got a chance, and I know the players will work hard to try and do that.

"We have been playing teams at a higher level and it will do us good in the long term. The league is the most important thing for us - this is a cup competition that has given us the chance to play higher league opposition.

"We are looking forward to the game against Clyde and it's another challenge back on the AstroTurf at Hamilton. Hopefully we can get a result but it's going to be a tough game as Clyde are a strong side also."
