Match Preview | Brechin City v Heart of Midlothian B - By Steven Mew

Following an opening day league victory over Formartine United at the weekend, attention now turns to the 1st round of the SPFL Trust Trophy against Heart of Midlothian B this evening.

Amongst the Jam Tarts B side is striker Makenzie Kirk, son of City Manager Andy. Makenzie certainly appears to be a chip off the old block with a prolific goalscoring record - netting 17 times in the Lowland League last term. He has continued his fine form into this season with 4 goals in their opening game against Gretna 2008.

TEAM NEWS
City will continue to be without Anthony McDonald and Lewis Martin for this evenings fixture.

MANAGERS COMMENTS
Reflecting on the opening day victory over Formartine United, Manager Andy Kirk said, "We were pleased to get the win and get off to a good start. Obviously the sending off changed the game and we went on to dominate large parts of it and it was just a case of trying to find a way through. Formartine were well organised, sat deep behind the ball and make things difficult for us. We managed to make the breakthrough with the penalty and we were perhaps unfortunate not to have had another one. There were a lot of aspects that we were pleased with, but still some thing we have to be better at.

"Formartine were a team that improved massively last season - they are well organised and have pace through their team so we are expecting a tough game and that's how it turned out.

"If you want to be challenging for trophies you have to start the season well. We know what this league is like - if you are playing catch up it becomes very difficult. We'll keep trying to improve and we'll keep trying to add one or two to the squad and hopefully we'll be up there challenging again."

A trialist came on for City in the second half with Andy commenting, "I thought he done well. He's just new to the group and he's not trained with us or anything like that yet. He showed glimpses of good movement, was very quick and won the penalty for us too."
