Match Preview | Banks O'Dee v Brechin City
- By
Steven Mew
Attention turns back to the Highland League tomorrow evening as we make the short journey up the A90 to face Banks O'Dee at Spain Park.
The Dee have enjoyed an unbeaten start to the league season, and picked up an impressive 2-0 victory last time out against Buckie Thistle.
Both sides head into the match off the back of comfortable victories in the 1st round of the Scottish Cup - City defeated fellow Highland League side Rothes 4-0 whilst Banks O'Dee put 6 past Lowland League outfit Dalbeattie Star.
TEAM NEWS
Manager Andy Kirk is likely to have a full squad to choose from, with the exception of long-term injury victim Anthony McDonald.
MANAGERS COMMENTS
Speaking following the Scottish Cup victory over Rothes, Manager Andy Kirk said, "The first half there were a lot of good things but we lost a little bit of pace and rhythm and started to get a little bit sloppy but the second half was excellent. Some of the passages of play and goals were fantastic and overall I thought the players were brilliant.
"We spoke at half time about some of the times we weren't as pleased with, which wasn't an awful lot. It was just about trying to lift the speed and do things a bit simpler. We managed to get a goal shortly after the restart and that helps to settle you a bit.
"Grady's third goal was something special. If you watch a game on the TV and you see Ronaldo doing it then it's on repeat. To bring the ball down and to have the awareness of where the keeper is and the quality and weight of the lob was just different class.
"It's another hat-trick for him and he'll not rest - we'll keep pushing him and hopefully he will keep scoring goals for the rest of the season. We have a style of play that allows Grady to flourish and if we can give him the opportunity then we know he will score 9 times out of 10. He still has a lot to learn but his attitude his great and he works hard for the team which is the reason he will get better."
Looking ahead to a rough trip tomorrow evening, Andy said, "Banks O' Dee are one of the stronger teams in the league and they've started well. We played them twice last year and the first game we thought we were down and out but we fought our way back in the game and the second one up there was a bit different. We know it's going to be a tough game as they have some quality players but we're in a good place at the minute and hopefully we can push on and keep picking up points."

PREVIOUS MEETING
Banks O'Dee 1-4 Brechin City - 30 December 2022
City put in one of their finest performances of last season as they simply blew Banks O' Dee away at Spain Park in December. Andy Kirk's side were 4-0 up after just 32 minutes with goals from Michael Cruickshank, Botti Biabi, Fraser MacLeod and a penalty from Grady McGrath. The second half struggled to match the excitement of the first, with Ewan Loudon receiving his marching orders late on before Rob Armstrong netted a consolation in stoppage time.
