Match Preview | Brora Rangers v Brechin City - By Steven Mew

In what is our final fixture before Christmas, City make the 8-hour round trip to face Brora Rangers at Dudgeon Park tomorrow afternoon.

Gavin Price's side will head into the game with renewed confidence following an excellent display in the 5-0 victory over Huntly last weekend.

They come up against a Brora side that currently sit in a somewhat 'false' 8th position, with the Cattach's progress halted by a number of postponements which has seen them play less matches than the majority of the sides above them in the league table.

In fact, aside from a defeat against Ross County in the North of Scotland Cup, City were the last team to inflict defeat on Brora back in August.

TEAM NEWS
City will be without long-term absentee Anthony McDonald whilst new signing Danny Handling remains a doubt having failed to shake off an ankle injury. Following his return from injury, Kevin McHattie played over an hour in the win over Huntly last week and came through unscathed.

MANAGERS COMMENTS
Looking back at the 5-0 victory over Huntly last week, Gavin Price commented, "We went over the video footage from the Formartine game and it was quite clear why things didn't go well in one period of the game. It was a fantastic reaction from the players and overall it was a very good team performance defensively and offensively - I couldn't fault anyone."

After coming on as a substitute, new signing Sean Hastie got himself on the scoresheet again with Gavin adding, "Sean has had an excellent start - he's come off the bench twice and got on the scoresheet both times. He's looked a handful when he's come on and it's good to have that competition for places in the forward areas. I'm sure he'll be knocking on the door in the future to be starting games. There's gradually more and more competition coming in and gives us more options on the bench too which is good."

After missing the last couple of months through injury, City welcomed back Kevin McHattie to the starting 11. Gavin said, "Having Kevin back is a massive bonus as we didn't expect to have him back as soon as this. He's managed to get through the last couple of weeks of training and an hour of the game last Saturday and there hasn't been any reaction to that. I thought he was excellent against Huntly - he gives a better balance to the team and he's very comfortable on the ball."

Looking ahead to tomorrow's long trip to Brora, he said, "There has been a lot more intensity in the training sessions in the last couple of weeks. Away to Brora is one of the toughest fixtures of the season but we're going there with full confidence after the performance we put on last week."

PREVIOUS MEETING
Brechin City 2-1 Brora Rangers - 12 August 2023
After missing a host of guilt-edged opportunities in the second half, City survived a nervy ending to record a crucial victory over Brora Rangers at Glebe Park earlier in the season.

City had the opportunity to put the game to bed numerous times after going 2-1 up shortly after the hour mark, but defended resolutely to ensure all 3 points stayed in Brechin.

Grady McGrath had given City the lead shortly after the half hour mark, only for Jordan Macrae to level things up for Cattachs four minutes later. Marc Scott netted the all important winner midway through the second half.
