Match Preview | Nairn County v Brechin City - By Steven Mew

After an enforced 3 week layoff, City will look to hit the ground running again as we travel to face an in-form Nairn County side at Station Park tomorrow afternoon.

Manager Gavin Price and his players are under no illusions as to how difficult the match will be, with the Wee County winning 10 of their last 11 matches in all competitions. Their impressive run of form has seen a surge up the table and they currently sit just 3 points behind City in the league table, albeit having played two matches more.

Following a 5-0 win over Huntly last time out, City's progress has been halted somewhat with two postponements over the festive period. Nairn meanwhile were in action last week with an impressive 3-0 victory away from home against Rothes.

TEAM NEWS
City's only definite absentee will be Anthony McDonald, with Danny Handling and Hamish Thomson both taking part in training this week.

MANAGERS COMMENTS
Manager Gavin Price said, "After the postponement last week we used the facility up at Brechin Community Campus for some training which was really good. We've done a bit of fitness work after the festivities and they've worked really hard.

"Despite the lack of games we've still managed to do a lot of work over the festive period and fitness levels are good. It's also given a couple of guys such as Hamish Thomson and Danny Handling, who were carrying knocks, are back in training now. We're a lot stronger as a squad and we've got to hit the ground running again."

Looking ahead to a tough fixture against Nairn tomorrow, he added, "Nairn have had a crazy run of form where they've maybe won about 10 from the last 11 - they've drawn with Banks O' Dee in that time and also won the North of Scotland Cup. They're probably the form team in the league.

"I know their Manager (Steven Mackay) well as he was my Assistant up at Elgin - I know he'll have a well organised team that will be hungry for a result. It's going to be a tough fixture but if we put in the same type of performance that we did against Huntly then we can go up there expecting to get a positive result."

PREVIOUS MEETING
Brechin City 2-0 Nairn County - 19th August 2023
A goal in each half from talisman Grady McGrath was enough to see off the Wee County back in August, however it was a game in which City could have sewn up long before the end following a host of missed chances throughout.
