Match Preview | Brechin City v Wick Academy - By Steven Mew

City will look to put the defeat against Buckie Thistle last weekend firmly behind them as they look to get back to winning ways against Wick Academy at the Carnegie Fuels Stadium at Glebe Park tomorrow.

A last-minute goal from Max Barry denied City what would have been a crucial point and in turn gave Buckie's title aspirations a real shot in the arm.

Wick make the long journey to Brechin hoping for a considerable improvement from the last meeting between the sides where City netted double figures without reply. The Scorries currently occupy 14th place in the table and head into the game having achieved back-to-back victories for the first time this season over Strathspey Thistle and Lossiemouth.

TEAM NEWS
With a few niggles and consideration of the fact City are in action again next Tuesday, Gavin Price may opt to freshen up his side for tomorrow's fixture. Anthony McDonald will continue to be City's only definite absentee.

MANAGERS COMMENTS
Reflecting on the defeat against Buckie Thistle last weekend, Manager Gavin Price commented, "It was a game that could have gone either way at the end but I thought we were a bit naive in the way that we played the last 10 minutes of the game. I don't think we covered ourselves in the glory in the way that we defended in certain situations and we've got to learn from that.

Overall we didn't do enough to earn 3 points but we were perhaps a bit unlucky not to take something from the game. We had some good stages in the game but we didn't play near as well as we can. It's happened and we've just got to put it behind us and move on. We've just got to get back on a good run again - it's made our task between now and the end of the season harder but everything is still in our own hands and it's always a positive if you're in that situation."

Danny Handling continued his fine run of goalscoring form whilst loan signing Matthew Wright got off the mark. Gavin added, "Danny has been doing really well timing his runs into the box which is what we want him to do. I still think there is more to come from Danny once he gets up to full speed.

"Matthew hasn't been starting due to the form of Ewan Loudon upfront but he's been knocking on the door to start games and we'll have to look at that over the next few weeks."

Looking ahead to tomorrow's match against Wick Academy, Gavin said, "I had a really good discussion with the players this week - we've been through the footage from Saturday and gone over what we could have done better. They are determined to put things right and that starts tomorrow - we've got to be up for it.

"There are obviously a few guys carrying niggles and the squad will be used over the next couple of games as we're obviously playing Saturday and Tuesday. There may be a couple of changes tomorrow to freshen things up a bit."

PREVIOUS MEETING
Brechin City 10-0 Wick Academy - 25 March 2024
City netted double figures for the first time in decades as they handed Wick a crushing 10-0 hammering following their 430 mile round trip to Angus. Grady McGrath was the star of the show as he netted 5 goals and could have easily been a double hat-trick had it not been for Wick's trialist goalkeeper saving a penalty kick. Marc Scott and Kieran Inglis both netted braces, whilst Ewan Loudon was also on target as City gave their goal difference a considerable boost for the run-in.
