Match Preview | Brechin City v Turriff United - By Steven Mew

City head into their penultimate home league fixture of the season tomorrow afternoon as we welcome Turriff United to the Carnegie Fuels Stadium at Glebe Park.

Following a 2-0 win on the road against Clachnacuddin last weekend, City will be aiming to consolidate their position at the top of the Highland League table as we approach the last straight.

City will come up against a Turriff United side who continue to make a marked improvement year on year and are currently 7 points better off than the entirety of last season.

Their form has stuttered of late however, as their 3-1 victory over Rothes at the weekend ended a run of 5 matches without a win.

TEAM NEWS
City will continue to be without Sean Hastie and Anthony McDonald although there is positive news on the latter who was due to return to training this week. Should he come through unscathed, the Manager is hopeful he can be involved in the squad within the next couple of weeks. There is a doubt over Marc Scott who missed out last weekend, although his injury is not as bad as first feared.

MANAGERS COMMENTS
Looking back at the 2-0 win over Clachnacuddin last week, Manager Gavin Price said, "I was pleased with the way we played and the chances we created - I thought we controlled the game from start to finish to be honest. It got a bit nervous with it taking so long for the breakthrough but we kept calm, stuck with it and ultimately deserved the win.

"We looked to get an impact from our substitutions and Murray (Mackintosh) certainly did that, along with the rest of the players who came on. Murray can play in a number of different positions which is handy for the squad. It's not easy keeping everybody happy in the squad but we've had a good reaction from those who have come on from the bench. At the other end Hamish (Thomson) came on and had a big bearing on us seeing out the game as well."

City had a couple of penalty shouts in the game, including one in the first half where a defender appeared to lunge in on Grady McGrath in the box. Gavin added, It's ridiculous. I've watched the footage back and it should have been a red card and a penalty. Because we've won the game it doesn't become a major talking point. The referee has a fantastic view of the challenge and for him not to act on it is very strange."

Looking ahead to tomorrow's fixture against Turriff United, he said, "We're now at the stage of the season where we've got to be so positive about how we approach every game and try not to be nervous about the situation we're in. We've got to keep a consistent level of performance and we've got to treat every game now like it's a cup final. Each game is as important as the next and we can't rely on results elsewhere - we've got to take care of our own business."
