Match Preview | St Johnstone v Brechin City - By Steven Mew

In what will be his first competitive game as Brechin City Manager, Patrick Cregg will come up against his former side St Johnstone in the opening fixture of the Premier Sports Cup tomorrow afternoon.

In what is sure to be a difficult test for City against their Premiership opponents, Cregg and his players are relishing the challenge ahead.

The game will also see Craig Levein and Andy Kirk make their return to the Carnegie Fuels Stadium, albeit in the away dugout after they departed the club for the Perth side midway through last season.

TEAM NEWS
City should have a full roster to pick from with the exception of striker Lewis Raeside who has missed pre-season through injury.

MANAGERS COMMENTS
Speaking to the Media Team ahead of his first competitive game in charge, Manager Patrick Cregg commented, "I'm happy with how pre-season has gone overall - we've had a couple of wins and a couple of defeats in there but the application has been good and the games have served their purpose for what we were needing to get out of it.

"We were lucky to inherit a core group of players it's important to have that continuity and consistency within a group. Obviously you need to add and change as you go but predominantly you want to keep that core of players.

"We are obviously looking to bring in a keeper and we should have a striker signed before the match against St Johnstone."

"From our point of view it's a game that we are looking forward to and it will be a challenge. We will give our very best and see what happens on the day."

PREVIOUS MEETING
St Johnstone 7-0 Brechin City - 10 October 2020
City will be looking for a far better outcome than the last time the sides met in a League Cup fixture, as Saints ran out comfortable winners at McDiarmid Park four years ago. A hat-trick from Stevie May and a double for David Wotherspoon has the home side 5-0 up just after the hour before goals in the final few minutes from former City loanee Callum Hendry and Murray Davidson added further gloss to the win.

LAST TIME OUT
City completed their pre-season schedule with a comfortable 4-0 win over Brechin Victoria whilst St Johnstone were 1-0 winners over Arbroath at Gayfield.

SPONSORSHIP
The matchball sponsor tomorrow has been sponsored by Colin Taylor, a regular at the Glebe. Many thanks to Colin for his continued support.
