Match Preview | Greenock Morton v Brechin City - By Steven Mew

City make the long journey south-west to face Greenock Morton in the Premier Sports Cup tomorrow evening looking to continue where they left off at the weekend.

It will be another tough test for Patrick Cregg's side as they come up against another full time outfit but they will be buoyed by a positive performance against St Johnstone on Saturday, despite defeat.

The Ton meanwhile will be looking to bounce back from a disappointing 3-0 loss against East Fife on Saturday which saw former City man Alan Trouten netting a hat-trick.

TEAM NEWS
Euan Spark and Ewan Loudon, who both came off at half time at the weekend will be assessed ahead of the trip tomorrow. Otherwise the rest of the squad should be available.

MANAGERS COMMENTS
Reflecting on the narrow defeat against St Johnstone, Manager Patrick Cregg commented, "I was really happy with the lads in terms of their effort towards the game and I was pleased with how we did both in and out of possession. We managed to get at them and a lot of the game was actually played in their half which was really pleasing as that isn't easy to do against superior opposition on paper.

"We can't get away from the fact that we didn't get a result from the game. Yes there is positives but there has to be a realisation that we didn't take anything from it. With football there are a lot of variables - you can play really well and lose but the important thing is we got a performance and I'm really happy from that point of view.

"St Johnstone had their best spell during a 10 minute period around the second goal but other than that I didn't think there was anything between the sides. I thought 1-0 at half time was a false scoreline, it gave them a false sense of security and gave us a bit of a body-shot going in at the break. I don't think the lads deserved it but that's football.

Looking ahead to tomorrow's trip to face Morton, Patrick added, "It's a good test for the players in terms of backing up a performance from Saturday. If will be pivotal for us to go into the game with the same effort levels and aggression in and out of possession."

LAST TIME OUT
In the opening fixtures of the Premier Sports Cup, City lost out narrowly 2-1 at home to Premiership side St Johnstone. Greenock Morton meanwhile suffered a 3-0 defeat away to League 2 outfit East Fife with former City man Alan Trouten netting a hat-trick.

PREVIOUS MEETING
Greenock Morton 2-0 Brechin City - 24 March 2018
The last time the sides met wasn't a happy experience for those of a City persuasion as their relegation from the Championship was confirmed mathematically following defeat against the Ton at Cappielow. A double from former City loanee John Baird did the damage for the home side.
