Match Preview | Brechin City v Alloa Athletic - By Steven Mew

The Premier Sports Cup Group Stage continues tomorrow afternoon with the visit of League 1 outfit Alloa Athletic to the Carnegie Fuels Stadium.

Despite narrow defeats in their opening two matches against St Johnstone and Greenock Morton, City can take enormous credit for their showings against sides considerably higher up the pyramid system.

Alloa Athletic meanwhile opened up their campaign with a stalemate at home to East Fife on Tuesday, before emerging victorious in the penalty shootout to earn a bonus point.

TEAM NEWS
After being an unused substitute on Tuesday evening, it is hoped Ewan Loudon will be fit enough to feature tomorrow. Michael Cruickshank took a knock to his ankle during the match against Morton and will be assessed.

MANAGERS COMMENTS
Despite defeat against Morton on Tuesday, Patrick Cregg was again happy with the application of his players. He commented, "I was really happy particularly with the first half where we had two really good chances and they didn't work Lenny often. It was disappointing to lose the goal from a set-piece - I thought it was offside at the time and I've watched it back a couple of times but it's hard to say.

"When we were chasing the game late on they had a few chances to put the game to bed. We changed our shape and we went for it - I said to the players before the game that we play to win. If we lose 1-0 or 2-0 it's still a loss - our mentality as a group was to get back into the game and the more you push bodies into offensive positions, the more space you are going to leave.

"Football is a game of moments and momentum and in both games to date we've lost the big moments but when you're playing superior opposition on paper then that can happen. In terms of effort, application and desire then I can't ask for any more.

"I'm more proud of the lads after that game than I was for the St Johnstone one, because it's very hard to get to a crescendo and then stay at that level in terms of workrate. It shows that we are building something."

Attention now turns to Saturday's match at home to Alloa with Patrick adding, "From the players point of view we've gone into every game so far believing we can win and we will have that belief again on Saturday."
