Match Preview | Fraserburgh v Brechin City - By Steven Mew

City will be looking to continue their promising start to the Highland League campaign as we make the tough trip to face Fraserburgh at Bellslea Park tomorrow afternoon.

Bellslea Park has been far from a happy hunting ground for City since coming into the Highland League but there is a growing sense of optimism in the City camp that this can change with a positive result.

TEAM NEWS
After picking up a hamstring injury in the win over Inverurie Locos on Wednesday evening, Ryan Ferguson is set for a spell on the sidelines. With the exception of a few niggles which will be monitored, the Manager is likely to have the rest of the squad to choose from.

MANAGERS COMMENTS
Reflecting on the midweek victory over Inverurie in midweek, Manager Patrick Cregg commented, "I thought we were really good - our strength and conditioning coach wasn't at the game but he deserves immense credit, as does Logan (McConachie) and the players for their appetite and how they are looking after themselves and their willingness to run and compete.

"Inverurie were sticky and they could have actually gone 1-0 up in the first 5 or 6 minutes - after that we missed a penalty and various other chances before half time. In fairness to the group they stayed relaxed and knew we would get more opportunities in the second half and for want of a better expression it was like Inverurie were on a life support machine just waiting to be unplugged.

"We got the first goal which knocked the stuffing out of them and our willingness to run along with our quality came to fruition in the second half. We are creating a lot of chances which is a good thing and hopefully we can add more goals."

Looking ahead to the trip to face Fraserburgh tomorrow, Patrick said, "We know it'll be a tough game, as is any away game in the league. Again we just need to have a front foot mentality, take the game to them and keep up the aggressiveness in our play. We are well aware that they are a good team but we have to embrace the challenge and look forward to it. "

PREVIOUS MEETING
Fraserburgh 4-2 Brechin City - 6 April 2024
It was the Broch who came out on the top in difficult conditions at Bellslea Park towards the end of last season. Ryan Sargent opened the scoring for the hosts on 10 minutes but their lead was cancelled out by Fraser Macleod's deflected strike 2 minutes later. A penalty from Kieran Simpson and a further goal from Jamie Beagrie had the hosts in command at the break, before Danny Handling pulled one back early in the second half. City pushed for an equaliser, but it was Fraserburgh who clinched the victory with another Kieran Simpson penalty.
