After progressing to the 3rd round of the Scottish Cup last weekend, attention turns back to the bread and butter of Highland League action as we host 5th placed Formartine United tomorrow afternoon.
Patrick Cregg’s side will be looking to get back to winning ways in the league, having suffered their first defeat of the campaign against Forres Mechanics a fortnight ago. They will face a stuff test against a Formartine side who have only lost once in their last 10 league fixtures.
TEAM NEWS
After missing last week through food poisoning, Craig Tosh returns to the squad but City will continue to be without Anthony McDonald and Scott Logan.
MANAGERS COMMENTS
Looking back at an action-packed Scottish Cup tie against Huntly last weekend, Manager Patrick Cregg commented,
"They obviously had two men sent off and I thought again we started the game really well, had chances and probably should have scored more in the first half. I thought our tempo was good in the first half but then it went a little flat but the lads showed really good mentality to suffer a setback at 2-2 and to ultimately get the winner.
"It seems to be at the moment where every attempt the opposition have on our goal is going in the back of the net but that will even itself out and isn't going to consistently happen. It was the same last week against Forres where they had 3 attempts on goal and they scored 3. We need to learn from the last couple of games and look to prevent the opposition getting those shots on goal.
"It's good to have Dayle back and we're getting more bodies returning, we're only missing Anthony McDonald and Scott Logan at the moment and once we have them back we'll have a really healthy squad."

PREVIOUS MEETING
Formartine United 4-3 Brechin City – 9th December 2023
The sides played out a 7 goal thriller at North Lodge Park in December last year. Ewan Loudon had given City the lead in the 10th minute with a blistering strike from range, however a disastrous 12 minute spell before the break saw Marc Lawrence, Julian Wade and Graeme Rodger net to give the home side a 3-1 lead at the interval.
Ewan Loudon netted his second shortly into the second half to reduce the deficit, only for Adam Emslie to restore the two-goal advantage just after the hour mark. Sean Hastie, who featured as a trialist for City, netted 11 minutes from time to set up a grandstand finish however the visitors were unable to force home an equaliser.
