Match Preview | Banks O' Dee v Brechin City
- By
Steven Mew
It's Friday night football for City tomorrow evening as we make the short trip up the A90 to face Banks O' Dee in the 2nd round of the R Davidson Banchory Highland League Cup.
City will be looking to continue their fine form in Aberdeen, having won the last 3 meetings between the sides at Spain Park.
TEAM NEWS
City will be without Dayle Robertson who will be serving a one-match suspension having received a red card in the last round against Inverurie Locos. Anthony McDonald continues to miss out through injury, whilst it is hoped that SFA clearance is received in time for new signing Cillian Sheridan to be part of the matchday squad.
MANAGERS COMMENTS
Reflecting on the Scottish Cup victory over Cowdenbeath last weekend, Manager Patrick Cregg said, "I thought we were excellent in the first half and then in the second half we probably dropped a level however once we got into extra time we were in the ascendency there was only going to be one team going to win it.
"The lads worked hard and it's something that we pride ourselves on - being able to work until the last minute. We still looked relatively fresh in extra time and the subs made an impact too. Michael Hunter, Lewis Milne, Daniel Johnston, Scott Logan and Ryan Ferguson all did well and when you have that firepower on the bench it always helps.
"That's 3 assists in 2 games now for Lewis Milne and it's such a great weapon to have when have a delivery as good as that and likewise with Anthony McDonald too but unfortunately he is injured at the moment. I didn't appreciate just how good Spencer's goal was at the time - having watched it back it was a majestic first touch and volley into the top corner."
The City Manager rang the changes for the last round of this competition and ahead of tomorrow's match he commented, "Everyone in the squad is capable of playing in any given match and we value everyone in the group, whether it's the younger players or more experienced. As we saw in the last round we were able to win with what could be deemed not to be our strongest team - as staff we believe everyone is capable."

PREVIOUS MEETING
Banks O' Dee 1-3 Brechin City - 18 September 2024
City continued their impressive record in Aberdeen as they fought back from a goal down to pick up a vital win at Spain Park in September. An own goal from Marc Scott had given the hosts an early lead but Fraser Macleod netted an equaliser for City from long range shortly after. Macleod grabbed his second after the break, with Ewan Loudon wrapping up the win with a third goal midway through the half.
